We've been thinking about getting one (probably a mix, because we want to get one from a shelter..What are they like? What are some pros and cons from you who own one? I've been reading on them, but would like to get the "scoop" from actual owners...Thanks

Wonderful dog!
Make sure you and your dog get proper training. That's not specific for Huskies, that goes for any dog. It IS specific for the owners, though. :-)
If you've never owned a dog before, most dog problems arise from their human owners.

The only con I can think of is shedding. Brush often. Not just the surface but deep into the undercoat.

I just read the answer above about not barking much. The Huskies I've known had light, soft barks and howls. Quite nice to listen to -- in a primeval way.

I grew up with a Siberian Huskie. She was a sweet dog, but I feel she should have been trained better, because she used to steal food off the table, and growl or snap if you tried to take it from her. She also had 2 litters of pups, and was a good mother and very protective of her pups. The only time she acted ferocious was about food, even if you came close to her while she was eating her dog food. I know that they are not all like that, because I dated someone with one, and his was incredibly well trained, and very affectionate(would never bite). They are so smart, and love the snow of course. My suggestion is to try to find the youngest one you can, and be sure to train him/her well, and give plenty attention. They truly are magnificent dogs! Oh, and they are very active, so make sure you can commit plenty of time for walks and excercise.
Good Luck!

I have a siberian husky X lab. I got him at 7 weeks and he is 7years old now.
Some pros..... hes always "talking" which is very common with huskies. not barking, but talking (more like a rarara sound)......he's great with cats, but he was socialized from a young age........he's very energetic, yet easy to train because he feeds off praise........ he pulls me up any hill ( I think its just in their nature to pull, he will pull anything you let him, which can be tricky too)
Some cons...... he is immpossible to control when he sees a squirrel or rabbit. If he catches it, he will kill it (its in their nature).....he has a very sensitive stomach (Im not sure if thats breed related at all)
He is one of the best dogs Ive ever owned, the talking is my fav!!!

We have a Siberian Husky and love him. He is super friendly, good with children, the cat that he was raised with, and other dogs...also friendly with strangers so is not a watch dog. He rarely barks. He requires lots of exercise, can jump any average fence and he needs grooming. One thing.....he sheds endlessly..and twice a year sheds his whole undercoat...I mean MEGA sheds...be prepared to clean up tons of dog hair. He is very good natured...smiley...happy-go-lucky and trained easily.

They're extremely smart and intuitive. They're also lovers- they love EVERYONE. However, some negatives are that they run away if not properly fenced in or tied. They can also be stubborn and tend to only listen to you when it suits them. Don't let that dissuade you though- they're amazing dogs. I love mine and plan to have Huskies for the rest of my life.

I think you should because rescued pets are the best!!! A siberian husky would just be better.

Yes, they are a great breed, we had a female, always looking to run and jump the fence, or jump in our pool, to keep cool. They shed alot, and we lived in South Florida.
