I really hate to say it but yes...and no. Looks are the first things people see. When you are across the room from someone, you dont walk over there based on their personality because you cant SEE that. Weight is not an issue though. Only shallow people judge by that. I am a bigger girl and I have never had a problem attracting men.

The number one attraction, yes probably.
The people worth being with however see past this at the start and look deeper and a girl may be able to catch a guy with her smile/looks/body but what does she have to keep him after that.
Personality counts for alot when the initial excitment and attraction have gone slightly.
Weight and looks can get someones attention, but aren't enough to hold it for any length of time.

No. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, for some being thin is attractive, but others like curves. I actually have a couple of friends that like plus size girls. Everyone's different. For some the number one attraction is chemistry, others looks etc. What's important is what you think about yourself.

Women have always been valued for their looks. We're no more shallow today than we were 100 years ago

absolutely, it was that way 500 years ago too. But then, it was who cooked best. Now, girls make reservations instead of making a dinner. So all they have left is their looks.
How many "hot" cooks do you know. Answer : they don't have to be.
