A question was asked about the etymology of two words:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AuRjeh6vIk_F3qAZjNDrQDvsy6IX?qid=20070315134820AAQfOku&show=7#profile-info-AA10781874

I posted nothing but factual information - the etymologies of the two words. I cited my source. I received two thumbs-up - and two thumbs-down.

What kind of mind does it take to oppose facts?

A lot of the people who hang out in this section are sheeple who are basically brain-dead, and who just utter words and phrases that have been preached to them. When they see something that doesn't fit their little mindset, they will thumb it down.

Watch my thumbs-downs add up! LOL

It is said that history is nothing more than a story agreed to by victors. It is also said that people hear what they want to hear, and disregard the rest. It is also said that the law is that which is boldly asserted and plausibly maintained. You see, except perhaps in the hard, cold sciences, there are no hard, cold facts. The origins of words are often lost, and the meanings change over time. Villain and villager were once nearly synonymous. Nice used to mean stupid. Clever still carries a somewhat negative connotation. The association of Jew and jewel may have come from more than one source, yet someone's historical perspective may trump someone else's religious perspective, and both may trump someone's racial/cultural perspective, all depending, of course, on who's been making the rules of belief at any particular time. You might consider consulting a philologist. They specialize in this sort of thing. Don't be disheartened. I once read a bumper sticker that said. "The Bible says it, And I believe it, And that ends it!" Can you believe it?

Some people give thumbs down to stuff they presume is cut and paste.
It may not mean they oppose the facts themselves, they just disagree with the method of explanation.
Or some dislike overly long explanations.

ALL kinds of people do it. I've had many answers which were FACTS (and I used sources to back up my answer), and received several thumbs-down. On one answer, I had five thumbs down, and no thumbs up. My answer wasn't that long, it was written by ME (not a copy and paste), and I included sources.
People are just ignorant sometimes. Plus they're lazy, and they don't like longer answers.

by the way, the only thing _I_ Thumb Down are ridiculously long answers just so I don't have to scroll through them.

I think some people just give thumbs down to any answer that is over 4 lines long.

Perhaps your facts were seen to be too slanted in favour of facts. LOL
Seriously, some people simply amuse themselves by gong over all the answers putting thumbs down on them all. I wouldn't worry about it. While they are doing that they are not doing other more harmful things.

ugh I know...

what's worse is when you see people pick best answers when the answer they choose is so off the mark it's ridiculous.
Sometimes I think people ask questions on here not because they want honest answers but because they'd rather have a chorus of people who agree with whatever messed up idea they are holding onto.

I noticed it too.
There are negative and/or babyish minds doing their little job
on Yahoo Answers.
That's a pity, but they are the same persons
who are doing so in real life.
And that's still more pitiful and pathetic.
But you can't change it, 'cause they are so very dumb.
And, thank goodness, they are a minority.
