it is still sugar which has little nutritional value one way or another
so in a choice sugar vs no sugar: no sugar wins
but if you are going to have the sugar anyway if you chose brown sugar / honey over white sugar you probably get a few trace nutrients and a slightly slower relase carbohydrate

It's less refined, and does have slightly fewer calories, but on the whole, the difference is negligible. They generally say it's better for you because it takes your body longer to process it, as opposed to white, so you don't get the instant hit of sugar rush.
