Diazapam is used for anxiety. I am not familiar with the other drug. Can't help you on that one. But, diazapam, if used sensibly like you said, should cause no harm. It can be addicting. One of the draw backs to the drug's usage. I think the only person who could answer weather your partner needs to go on a antipsychotic is a trained mental health professional. Some of the antipsychotic drugs have really bad side effects that come along with them. This decision should be made between your partner, the doc, and you if your partner chooses to involve you with this decision. Just my 2 cents. Hope everything works out for you. Good Luck.

All of these decisions should be made by the doctor in charge of your partners case no comment about drug changes from Answers should used to alter PRESCRIBED ( hopefully!) medication.
However, generalising, diazepam now only has a licence for short term use in anxiety, using it as maintenance is now outwith its license, and many doctors now never use any benzodiazepines in this condition.

well, if he's doing well now-- its fine to continue with what he has-- but with drugs theres sometimes the lessening of its effects so i would suggest that he takes on some cognitive therapy or cognitive behavioural therapy to work through what he's feeling anxious about. The therapy can help him learn cognitive styles to try stop him getting anxious-- (usually with use of relaxation techniques)!
im assuming he has psychotic symptoms as this is why you asked about the drugs-- drugs work best only in the short term... the therapy will help in the long term... there's lots of research on this-- check psychology websites!
good luck

Anti psychotics should not be used for anxiety and he is already on a tricyclic anti depressant. There are other more appropriate drugs for anxiety if he isn't getting relief from his present drugs.
