I am 27 years old and I just got braces last Friday. I got the ones that match your teeth color that I paid an extra $500 for. The thing is that the white part that goes glued to my teeth is made of plastic thats very jagged. My lips have been in pain since it rubs against my lips. I have been using a crazy amount of wax and I can't imagine putting wax on my teeth every single day. It's very time consuming and it makes me look like I got duck lips.

Ive had the braces on for like 6 days now and my lips hurt more than ever and also my front teeth really hurt and feel very sore.

The questions I have are:

-Will this burning pain on the inside of my lips and mouth go away? Will my lips actually get used to them?

-Also my front teeth are very sore. Can't bite anything and it even hurts to brush them. This normal? If so how long will this last?

1. your gums will get accustomed to the jagged edges and all will be well

2. you can use tylenol and advil together and not "overdose" because their ingredients are not the same. use the maximum amounts for your weight. the pain should last a week each time the braces are adjusted or you get a new wire. it's quite common

All totally normal symptoms...Yes, you will get used to them, your lips will stop hurting, and you will be able to eat and brush normally, just not now because it's only the first week you've had them. It also may be worse for you because your adult teeth may be more resistent since you have braces at 27 rather than say, 13. Maybe that's why the pain is so bad, but it doesn't matter if you have braces now as a 27 year old. You will still get used to them just like a teenager would.

thats all totaly normal i had braces for 26 long months. the burning will go away with in a few weeks, i didnt use the wax i figures that i would get used to the metal in my mouth and it did. i would sugest not using that much wax after a while your mouth tastes like the wax. your front teeth will be sore probly two weeks but get used to it cuz every time that you get the braces tightned it feels almost the same as when you got them on hope that this helped

Ask a dentist about the lip problem but the pain in your front teeth is perfectly normal, it's just your mouth getting use to the pressure the braces apply to the teeth in order to straighten them.

dont worry, im 16 and had braces too, it hurts the first week and most people say they've even lost weight due to braces because its hard to eat solid foods the first week. After a week or two your lips will get use to the extra metal across them and the pain will slowly decrease. Its normal that your teeth will be sore or have a throbbing-like pain...give it a week or two and you'll get used to the braces. I drank smoothies for a good snack to soothe my appetite as well as the pain, and i also took tylenol for pain relief.
