Serial killers incarcerated in prisons frequently tell to journalists that "God told them" to kill their victims.

Not all do. In the book of Job for example(in the Hebrew Scriptures), Job talks about seeing God on the earth in his(Job's) own body, he would see God.

I am a Christian, and I can tell you that this statement is false. Christians do believe that God chose the Jews for a specific purpose: to make known his glory and the fact the the Lord alone is the one true God. The only problem is that the Jews rejected this responsibility and fell into idolatry repeatedly (read the Old Testament for examples)
Christians believe that when the Jewish Messiah(Jesus) was born, the Jews rejected him. That is why Christians today have been given the responsibility of telling the world about the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob who was born of a woman, in human flesh.

How do you know it's not the people who aren't listening correctly to what God is saying to them? Or perhaps that God isn't talking to them at all, but they are merely saying that he is so that they can obtain power.

God tells people something that is relevent to that person right then. But then something else that is relevent to the other person. If it is truly God & His Word, that doesn't make it false, but is Truth.
God never told Hindus that a cow is a sacred animal. God has mentioned hell in old & new Testaments. God never told Muslims they get rewards of virgins for murdering others & self at the same time. God has written in the 10 commandments "Thou shalt not kill.". A little g wannabe god tells murderers to kill people. This gives them an excuse to excersize this murder lust.

That would be true if we assumed that God tells other religeons what to do. The devil appears in many pleasant forms, because he wants to be YOUR friend. If he came with a tail and pitchfork like many people would expect, people would flee from him. God lets the devil be loose in the earth because humans have the power of choice, and those who are discerning and commited will discover the truth.
God has for many people also become an explanation for their angst, sadness, and fear. This is not nessecarily so. Just because a serial killer who is obviously not OK in the head says that god told him to do it doesn't mean its true. He was feeling urges because of emotional trauma or perhaps because he's a psychopath. God is Just. As a Christian, I hate to be too preachy, but I hope that my thoughts made sense. good luck finding your answer, its a doozy of a question!

There are a lot of teachings that come from a lot of religions in the world that contradict each other, but there is one book written that contains absolute truth and no contradictions and that book is the Bible.
The devil takes truth and twists and perverts it to keep a lot of people bound by sin and dead lifeless religion. Jesus Christ came to open our eyes to truth - He said, "You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free." Everyone who doesn't know Him is bound or snared or trapped in deception of one kind or another. Until you know the truth you will never be free as Christ said. Well, what is the truth?
Simple - Jesus Himself said, "I am the truth." He declared unequivocally that He was the center and source of all truth.
So in order to be set free from delusion and deceit and all the devil uses to hold people in bondage we must come to know Jesus!
When we come to know Jesus, we will know whether the voices we hear are truth or lies. Jesus told us that "my sheep know my voice and they will not follow another." He is the good shepherd, and those who follow Him are His sheep. He is the one person who can reveal truth to us, and the only one who can keep us in the truth through the power of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God.
Religion will never help you. Christianity is not a religion, but a relationship with Christ. That relationship will not only clear up any questions you may have concerning the voices in the world, but will carry you into eternity with assurance of His never failing love. There you will be joyously united with Him and all who love Him forever and death will never have a hold on you. It's a wonderful way to live!

Some people believe that God is talking to them when he really isn't. I'm not saying that he doesn't, but come on, you really can't believe serial killers do what they do for God. People interpret God differently also. I mean, none of us are smart enough to equal God, right? All we can do is abide to what we think is truest.

Those serial killers you're talking about? They're not listening to God.
1. they're demented and hear voices in their head telling them to kill someone because they want to kill them for some odd reason, and so they attribute that voice to God because:
a.) to plead insanity in order to get a reduced sentence
b.) again, they're demented, and they actually believe it's the voice of God even when it's not
or
c.) to plead insanity in order to get a reduced sentence.

Sometimes he does; sometimes he doesn't. When He doesn't, it's not something basic and contradictory. When it's contradictory and significant, it's a matter of an error in interpretation or belief. The bottom line line is that only god is right, and people are right only when they agree with God. What's important to you is what God is saying to you.

Do you truly believe it is God who tells them? Only God works from HIS word. He is only in the Truth, for HE IS truth. He does not deceive- and does not change his truth to suit others. Many receive false doctrine from the enemy and from being led astray by others who are not walking in the truth. You will know if it is God, by what His word says.....anything that is contrary to the Bible is not the truth, nor from God. The enemy does work in many ways, and one of those ways is using God's word, by twisting it and luring people in, with scripture, then desensetizing them with false doctrine. Many are not "walking in the spirit of God" ---and God tells us we will know them by their fruits:
Ephesians 5:11
Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
Jesus says to those who believe: John 15:4
Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
Galatians 5:22-23 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control.

What you need to realise is that there is only ONE God. He is the God that created the UNIVERSE. This God has ONE SON called Jesus who died for our sins so that all those that believe on Him can go to Heaven.
There are other entities that people worship but these entities are not the same God that created the Universe and has a Son called Jesus.
God is made of 3 persons. The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. All 3 added together is God, BUT each one by THEMSELVES is God.
Every HUMAN is a SPIRIT, we have a SOUL and we live in a physical BODY. You are a spirit, you have a soul and your spirit and soul are inside your physical body. (It is your spirit and soul that goes to heaven, not your physical body).
It is impossible to please God without faith. 2000 years ago God sent His only Son (LOOK TO THE FIRST PARAGRAPH TO REALISE WHO THE SON ACTUALLY IS) to die for the sins of the whole world. We ALL inherited sin from Adam when SATAN deceived Adam to sin in the Garden of Eden. AND on top of that we ALL sin everyday. (There would be no such thing as sin in the world if Satan did not exist).
In the eyes of God - we are FILTHY SINNERS because ON TOP of inheriting sin from ADAM, Satan CONTINUOUSLY DECEIVES the world to sin. So EVERYBODY in this world is FULL OF SIN. God HATES SIN.
NO FILTHY SINNER can get into heaven. This is why God kicked Lucifer (who is Satan) out of heaven - He was a sinner. But God made a way for us to clean ALL our sins away and get into Heaven.
2000 years ago, God sent His ONLY SON JESUS CHRIST to die, SPECIFICALLY for YOU in order to "purchase" your FILTHY sins so that ALL your sins will be taken away. THREE days later, God RAISED Jesus Christ from the dead and Jesus went to heaven taking with Him all your FILTHY sins.
It says in the Word of God:
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotton Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.
("Perish" in the above scripture means GO TO HELL).
THE ONE AND ONLY WAY to go to HEAVEN is to:
1. Say with you mouth and believe in your heart (your spirit) that Jesus Christ is your Lord and personal Saviour and that God raised Him from the dead taking away your sins.
2. Ask God to clean away your filth and take away ALL your sins.
When you do this by FAITH The Holy Spirit (LOOK TO THE FIRST PARAGRAPH TO REALISE WHO THE HOLY SPIRIT ACTUALLY IS) will LIVE inside your spirit and God will recognise you as one of His Children, and when you die you will go to Heaven.
