Why do some dogs take pieces of their food or treats onto the carpet to eat them?

I dont really know for sure, but all of my dogs do it and my guess is that it has something to do with being pack animals as wolves, and trying to make sure that no one else can eat their treat before they eat it.
Or they just like the feeling of the carpet.

carpet provides a grip for dogs they can set it on the carpet and hold it with their paws and chew it without worrying about it slipping unlike on wood floor they probably also like it because carpet is soft a nd cooshy they like to be comfortable while eating

It's not that it's the carpet. They are taking their treat to an area where they feel more secure. They don't want anyone to "steal" it away from them.

My spoiled little Yorkie won't even walk on vinyl or tile floor if it's cold. Her dishes have to be on the carpet or she won't eat...lol

I dunno but it's a nuisance! My two love pizza and as a treat share a little of mine once in a while... as happened last night. Gave Max the pizza in the kitchen (laminate floor)... next thing I knew he was on the sofa with it! Offered a piece to Monty, who promptly took his into the sitting room, leaving me to vacuum yet again!
