It seems like they just overgeneralize based on the fake religious people that get talked about in the media like ann coultry and pat robertson, rather than from a real understanding of religion. But it's rather convenient that they never mention the people like Martin Luther KIng or Gandhi. Because since when has an atheist done more in terms of major social progress than say Martin Luther KIng or Gandhi to be talking like that?

I agree with you totally. They don't have anything to back up what they are saying, so they use the few people who fall from grace for a short moment in their lives.

People make comments about religious people being the worst sinners, but it's not that at all. What it is is that when people of God slip, it is overpublicized. People just need something to take the stench off of them.

Isnt this kind of a blanket statement?

I have never said that religious people dont do a lot of good. In fact I have actually said that they have. I deeply admire Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Albert Schwietzer and of course Martin Luther King.

I do want to say that there have been some atheists that have contributed incredible things to society. Florence Nightengale was an atheist. Most of the top scientists in the world are. I know it may seem a bit shallow, but Brad Pitt is and he has started the ONE movement, which is having a very positivf effect .

You have to take into consideration that there are far fewer atheists than people of religion. Hopefully we will have many more role models in the future.

Oh of course! Because you never hear things about atheists like 'all atheists are lacking in morality' or 'atheists aren't really atheists because deep down they really believe in god' or 'I would rather my daughter marry a satanist than an atheist'. You never hear things like that around here. NO. NEVER.
By the way, Martin Luther King cheated on his wife and Gandhi molested young girls.

Ever hear of a guy named Thomas Jefferson? I could have sworn he was an atheist....

Martin Luther King and Gandhi are fine examples of how religion can help man. Too bad they're the only ones.

You just made a "blanket" statement about atheists. FYI, in a previous question I answered, I pointed out that Mother Theresa had done alot to help the poor, and I hold Gandhi and MLK in high regards, don't make ASSumptions.

I like your blanket statement about non-atheists' blanket statements.

Just to burst your bubble, though.. neither King nor Gandhi did what they did under the guise of religion. They just happened to be religious men.

You seriously think King did what he did for the sake of religion? Religion was just another tool King used to acheive his goals. Just because I'm Asian doesn't mean I'm smart because of my race. Who is using a blanket statement now?

And I'm not atheist, although I agree with them, primarily because they don't make the comments you allege them to make. They are mostly talking about modern Christian fundamentalists anyways.

TKD you moron, the whole Christian arguement is "it's in the Bible" whereas the whole scientific one is based upon math and facts. Honestly, the quality of education these days is appalling...

Satan is the Prince of the world. Christ is the King.

Someday we will all find out what is real and not real when it comes to God. Evil is present in the world and shows itself in many forms. Therefore, if evil is present, why is God not real and present in the world.

Where did all the beauty in this world come from. Science and math only!!!!

I'm not an atheist, but I will point out that a lot of prominent scientists are atheists.
