If there is someone in your life that you really care about, but that person hurts you in some way, do you stick around to allow them to have a second chance or do you cut them loose?

Sometimes it's hard to turn the other cheek. I believe God does ask us to turn the other cheek, however, I don't believe he wants us to be stupid either.

If you turn the other cheek and someone keeps hitting you over the head with a 2 x 4 (literally, in speaking or emotional actions toward you), at some point you have to stop turning the other cheek.

God doesn't expect us to be stupid! We are made in his image and Christ paid for all the abuse and turned the other cheek for all of us so we don't have to be long-suffering and stupid.

I find it very easy to turn the other cheek. I realize people do and say things that may seem hurtful for many different reasons. I try to figure out what is going on with the person, why they would be hurtful. Most times they are not intentionally being hurtful. Understanding is truly a key to having a happier, and easier life.

I think it depends on what was done. Jesus forgives us on the condition that we confess, repent and ask forgiveness. He forgives us all. But God has His limits, too. He will forgive, but in some cases, punishment is necessary.

If the person habitually does something to hurt you, it is time to move on. If it is a first offense, I say forgive and try to work it out. But never accept the same mishap more than once or twice. Forgive and move on.

Hmmm... good question! We should always turn the other cheek, and it has been easy at times to do this, but with people who are VERY close to me, it is hard sometimes. However, I do forgive them.....and when bitterness springs up I pray!

Depends on the kind of "hurt". We all get our feelings hurt once in awhile and you live with it, but if someone is being physically, emotionally, mentally or psychologically hurtful get the heck out! They will never change.

I usually give them another chance. But sometimes thats when you get taken advantage of. These days you have to be very careful..................I wish it wasn't like this, but it is. Someday soon, it won't matter anymore. This is the day I am waiting for. Seems almost impossible, but it will happen.

Why would I put myself in that situation in the first place? And if I did what do I gain by letting someone think they're better than me or benefit from my detriment?

Common sense dictates that you don't subject yourself to someone who constantly hurts you... that's not compassion, that's "idiocy". You can understand that they do what they do due to causes and conditions, but you don't have to lay there and take it with a smile.
