Why still use a symbol in our day, why do Christians need crosses?

The fish was an ancient symbol of Christianity.
The letters for the Greek word for fish are ixthus, standing for:
I = iota, first letter of Iesus (Jesus)
X= chi, first letter of Christos (Christ)
TH = theta, first letter of Theou (divine or "of God")
U = upsilon, first letter of Huios (Son)
S = sigma, first letter of Soter (Savior)

Before Constantine freed the Church in 325 C.E., Christians were underground and used the fish to identify eachother. The Greek acronym that spells fish translates into Ichthuse. Ever since it wouldn't get you killed, Christians have made the sign of the Cross.
