Because God wanted them to have souls. When they die their souls go before God to be judged. The body dies but the soul never dies!

So we can leave our temple when it dies. Our soul is what gives us life, our bodies have to die just like everything else on earth, that's do to gravity, time and wear and tear put on our bodies. But our souls can go on.

God has given them to us- and He says:

Behold, all souls are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is mine: the soul who sins shall die.

i like to think that my soul is the part of me that stands there with a drooping jaw saying wow to itself before all of the amazing and beautiful stuff crammed into this universe. it will die with me of course, it's probably just a synthesis of my emotions and the minds ability to comprehend, i just like to give it that label. hopefully i will live on in the laughter of my grandchildren as they play with the snow-shaker my ashes have been put in.
