Trying to learn how to read/write/speak it but I can't even make out the individual letters because they are so small. Are you supposed to look at each word as a picture? Or are you supposed to look at each letter individually (if that's the case, are you supposed to use a magnifying glass????)

Jessica are you reading from a paper/book or from the net/computer? Arabic writing is not small and can be increased in size if online!

I suggest that you learn the alphabet first, see how every letter can be connected in writing to others. This way you can distinguish between the letters in every word and be able to read them! And no, words are not considered as a (picture) like in some Asian languages, each word consists of combined letters.

Arabic might look frightening to learn at first, it is a Semetic language and so different from English or other European languages, but later on it is rewarding to learn it and enjoy one of the richest languages, the language of poetry.

For example the word "love" has more than twenty equivalent words in Arabic, describing different levels and feelings of LOVE!

Use a larger font.
My handwriting is very tiny but my sister's is huge!
You would need a magnifying glass to read my handwriting!

And the other question. No, you don't have to look at it as a picture. It is a word.
The same way English is. The only difference is that you have to connect the letters in each word.
And when you connect the letters you have to use the lower case letters.

Use larger fonts on your computer. Every letter is looked individually, but sometimes meaning of a word depends on the context. Arabic seems smaller because of the shape of the letters and because it is semi-cursive. No, we don't use magnifying glass. Arabic is more phonetic than English and I'm used to read English words as a whole rather than letter-by -letter, so you might want to try it that way with Arabic, but I don't recommend it, because you'll get different words if you misplace dots on letters etv.

Each letter is individual. some have certain accent marks, which basically means the vovel associated with the letter. (da,dee, dow, ect.) The letters are shaped differently depending on where they are placed in the word.
lol, you dont need a magnifying glass. It's quite simple to distinguish them once you learn the different types.
