Islam teaches that God has given man the faculty of reason and therefore expects man to reason things out objectively and systematically for himself. To reflect and to question and to reflect.

Nobody should press you to make a hasty decision to accept any of the teachings of Islam, for Islam teaches that man should be given the freedom to choose. Even when man is faced with the TRUTH, there is no compulsion upon man to embrace it. But before you begin to form an opinion about Islam, ask yourself whether your existing knowledge of Islam is thorough enough. Ask yourself whether that knowledge has been obtained through non-Muslim third party sources who themselves have probably been exposed to only random glimpses of Islamic writings and have yet to reason on Islam objectively and systematically themselves.

I lived in a Muslim country for 2 1/2 years, so I feel as though I have had enough objective experience with Islam and Muslims to answer this question.

However, your own Koran says very plainly "Fight for the sake of Allah those that fight against you, but do not attack them first. Allah does not love the aggressors. SLAY THEM WHEREVER YOU FIND THEM [emphasis mine]....if they attack you, PUT THEM TO THE SWORD. Thus shall the unbelievers [i.e., non-Muslims, more specifically Jews and Christians] be rewarded: but if they mend their ways, know that Allah is forgiving and merciful. Fight against them until idolatry is no more and ALLAH'S RELIGION reigns supreme." Sura 2 (The Cow), verses 190-193

In Sura 9 (titled Repentance), verse 5 it again says, "...slay the idolaters wherever you find them. Arrest them, beseige them, and lie in ambush everywhere for them."

Moreover, the Koran repeatedly says, "Fight for the cause of Allah."

Does this sound like a peaceful religion? I guess Al-Qaida wasn't joking when they said they were following the TRUE ISLAM. And I guess every time a car bomb, IED or homicide bomber goes off, they're just following the directions of their "lord" to kill.

Contrast Islamic teachings with the words of Jesus, who said, "When someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other cheek to him as well. When someone takes your shirt, offer your coat as well. And whoever forces you to walk a mile, walk two miles instead." Matthew 5:39-42

And let's not forget the verses that say, "You have heard it said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, LOVE your ENEMIES, BLESS those who hate you, and PRAY for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven...." Matt 5:43-45

How can Allah be the same god of both Mohammed and Jesus when the two had vastly different messages? Can anyone say that Jesus' message of peace, love and forgiveness has been corrupted, and if so, how could it have been any more corrupted than "love your enemies"?

Now that's a question I'd like to see some answers to...

I suggest that anyone who has a serious interest in Islam REALLY take an objective, historical approach to find out more.

Islam is not a religion of peace; it never has been and it never will be. That is the truth.

And this is the truth as well. In John 14:6, Jesus said, "I AM the way, the TRUTH, and the life. No man comes to the Father except through me." Period.

You sound like a politician.
If God has given man the faculty of reason then why do your Muslim brothers use that reason to make peace among themselves?
While you state that that 'Nobody should press you to make a hasty decision to accept any of the teachings of Islam," People who live in most Islamic countries have no choice of religion; they must be Muslims or die; if they convert to another faith they can be killed; women has very little rights in most Muslim countries.
It's time that you crazy Muslim people accept the TRUTH that Islam is an oppressive religion. Stop using this forum for spreading lies!

Edit: The verse 2:178 as an answerer has pointed out, is the very core of justice in Islam.

That is if a man has killed someone, the victims family are given the right to ask for money from the killer, if the victim was the only caretaker of the family. Thus, the capital punishment is pardoned for the benefit of the victims family.

Sorry but I would rather believe a non-Muslim than a Muslim when learning about islam since you are not allowed to say anything bad about your false religion. There is nothing objective about islam. There is no freedom in islam. How can you possibly justify Muhammad as a prophet of God when he was totally unGodly? I'm sorry you have been taken in by this lie but I never will.

It's funny how people get lost in concepts like jihad (when they have no idea what it is really about) and forget the beauty of Islam.

No pope, no partners, no begotten sons or confusing trinity theories. Just God.

Hmm...let's reason this out.

Islamic Countries: For the most part, third world dictatorships where the vast majority of the population is poor and uneducated, subject to sharia law, enjoy little freedom if they have the misfortune of being female, and subject to the dictates of mad mullahs and psychotic WMD-chasing overlords.

America: Became the world's only economic and military superpower in just a little over 200 years, by adhering to Judeo-Christian values and work ethics. A nation where scientific inquiry is alive and well, and even the poorest citizens have problems with obesity. A country whose culture is exported worldwide to literally billions of people who can't get enough of it, and who dream of having the prosperity and freedom seen in our movies for themselves.

Yep, if we think about it, you can only come to one conclusion:

God hates Moslems, and has richly blessed Western Civilization.

Having reviewed Islam in detail, I find no reason to adopt Islam (or any other religion); the Qur'an has errors (one of them extremely serious), and the notion that it the word of god cannot be maintained. Conclusion: Muhammad was the most successful swindler in all human history; 1400 years later, people are still being taken in by it.
