i'm moving to new york for a job in less than 2 months. i'm thinking of living in the city for a couple of months, then buy something on the outskirts vs. renting forever like here in L.A. any tips on finding month-to-month rentals in or around new york city for a few months? (and i should note that i'd like to live in a culturally diverse area if possible) Thanks for your insight!

Check http://newyork.craigslist.org for short-term rental listings. Brooklyn tends to be quite expensive so you could buy an apartment in Queens. Jackson Heights, Woodside and Astoria are close to Manhattan and they're culturally diverse. check out http://www.foxtons.com for listings. Good luck!
