try not to do too much to it that'll damage it, like perming, coloring, excessive blow drying, etc. If you do, you'll find that the ends will become very damaged as it grows out resulting in dry hair and split ends.
also, eat a balanced diet. yes, it helps. hair is made from protein. some people also supplement their hair growths with animal-based gelatin. it is said that the collagen in gelatin helps.

The best tip is Flaxseed oil pills! I am so happy because it makes my hair grow so fast and more manageable and so healthy looking. Try to take 3 pills a day with food or milk. It really does start from the inside out to get good hair.

beautiful, healthy hair starts from the inside. take a good multi vitamin, this will make your hair grow faster and thicker.
also you should start taking fish oil, it makes hair grow strong, shiney, and luminous. fish oil is rich in healthy omega 3s that are awesome at making skin and hair gorgeous. it can be bought at any health food store and it comes in pills that you can swallow so its not as yucky as it may sound.
also try to eat more eggs, which are rich in protien, after all that is what hair is made of - protien!
remember to be gentle with your hair. the very ends of your hair are up to five years old so you should treat your hair like a piece of delicate lace. don't brush hair when its wet and avoid blow drying or heat styling whenever possible. if you absolutley need to blow dry, try to squeeze out as much moisture with a paper towel first. use a deep conditioner once a week.

Well, for one you need to have the patience to wait for it to grow out.
I would also say make sure you take care of your hair depending on the type of hair you have. Dry hair might= more conditioner. Or try not to damage it to much by straightening it, blow-drying it, coloring it. It could help to do that all after you have your hair to the desired length.
Another way is to get it trimmed every once in a while for split ends. Yes it means cut, but not too much, enough to get rid of them. Also asking a professional stylist will give you tons of help.

First wash it as little as possible. I try to wash my with shampoo and conditioner every other day, then I use just conditioner on the other days.
Second, limit the styling tools you use. Straighteners, blowdryers, curling irons.....etc. If you do use them then use a heat blocker.
Third, stay away from chemical processes. Or at least limit them.
And then make sure you get your hair trimmed regularly to keep the ends free of splits and dryness.

Henna can be used once a month to thicken hair. If you don't want the reddish tint of henna, try using neutral henna. It's a great conditioner and also has amla, brahmi and jatamansi, all rich in protein
Coconut has keshya properties -- that is, it improves hair quality. In Southern India, women apply coconut oil to their hair every day-which gives them long, lustrous locks.

Use a good shampoo, wash your hair every three days. Let it dry naturally. Then tie it up. Go to work/ school looking casual. ONLY use products/straighteners etc when you're going to a special party or something. Otherwise leave it as it is.
& stop fretting

Use a shampoo and conditioner with panthenol it seems to speed up growth and strength.massage your scalp with some hemp based hairdressing (only a little if you have fine hair so it doesn't look greasy) avoid heat (blow dryers etc.) as they tend to dry out natural oils. This should really help it worked for me when I grew mine out! GL

Don't brush your hair when it's wet, because it's like elastic, and it will break. Treat your hair like it's something really delicate and breakable. And try not to damage your hair too much by curling/ironing it, or overloading it with hairspray.
Also, try using a shampoo and conditioner that helps repair damage.

trim split ends, brush with a wide tooth comb, keep hair down except when sleeping to minimize friction, no rubberbands unless they're made for hair, keep it conditioned, don't use heating appliances often, take a multivitamin, get lots of protein in your diet, take prenatal vitamins,
but the number one thing that worked for me was turning my head down while i shampooed and massage the roots on my scalp in small circular motions to stimulate blood flow.
