There is no one normal credit score, they can range anywhere from 350 to 850. I beleive that the national average is 678. But anything in the high 600's is good and above 700 is very good. Also, your credit score could vary as much as 20-30 points between the different companies because of what is reported. So it is important to get a copy of your credit report from all 3 and make sure it is correct. You are allowed 1 free copy per year from each of the 3 agencies.
However, the score is only 1 part. If you do not have the income to back up the loan you will not approve you for the loan. That is even with a 800(excellent) credit score if you only are making $1000 a month don't expect to get approved for a car or mortgage.

The national average is 678. But do not fall into the trap so many people seem to, that is thinking that score is everything, believe me it is not. I see people every week with scores over 700 that can not buy a vehicle because the only thing on their credit is one credit card paid 15-times as agreed and a couple of student loans.

A fico score above 620 qualifies you for a conforming mortgage loan.
A fico score above 700, qualifies you for unsecured credit cards at prime rates.
