tuberoot: 'WE' simply means anyone who wishes to answer this question.

Good and evil can sometimes easily be confused - hence the expression, "sometimes you have to do the wrong thing to do the right thing'

That said, children are often blinded by a caring parent refusing their wishes - yet sometimes the parent may be wrong.

You can interject parent with any other word....government, spouse, employer...priest...

spiralli: surely shame isn't evil.. It is often the realisation that we have done wrong and therefore we might learn and improve - though i accepy that in some quarters this might be seen as losing face and revenge might be then seen as 'doing duty'

Over many centuries of wars and hostility, history demonstrates that the 'good' has often been the description of the winning side and the associated religion and beliefs.
Examples are numerous, but could include the Spanish conquests in the Americas, the British, Belgian, Portuguese and French conquests in Africa and the far East.
The conquering nation can of course bring 'goodness' to the indigenous population through religion and better health, but often at the price of slavery and repression.
When uprisings occur, this can be regarded as evil in that they don't meet the 'status quo' of the ruling nation.
Complications can occur of course, which are demonstrated by Zimbabwe and South Africa, which have regained 'freedom', but are now struggling to survive.

Looking at the question from a much more humanistic point of view, I would say that good and evil can be calibrated on a moralistic yardstick. Be good, understanding, generous, loving and merciful to your fellow man(and woman!), and you won't go far wrong!

I hate to use the words good and evil because it implies some kind of mysterious goodness and mysterious evil..

I prefer, constructive and self-destructive.

constructive Man works and supports his family.

Self-destructive: Man drinks and abandons family.. Does not pay child support.

Constructive: Woman eats well and exercises.

Self-destructive: Woman eats fats , does not exercise, and weighs 300 lbs.

Constructive: Town people accept others who follow their driving laws, send their children to school, pay taxes.

Self-destructive: Town people harass and threaten people who follow their driving laws, send their children to school and pay taxes but are a different color from the majority or are gay in sexual orientation.

Good = Strong

The good don't lie because they are brave enough to take responsibility.

The good don't run because they have the truth on their side.

The good have friends who are loyal to them and trust them because they tell the truth.

Evil = Weak

The weak lie out of cowardice.

When the going gets tough, the evil get going.

The evil have only other weak people who leach on to them and would run to the next strongest person at the drop of a hat.

Good is anything that honors God. Evil is wanting the praise for yourself. Good is what God does for us. Evil is to ignore all that He's done and not to be grateful. Good is what God wants for us and evil is what we settle for because it appeals to our base nature. Good is following God and evil is to go our own way.

God is good and we are evil till we come to the point of confessing our sin and asking him to forgive us.

Set is the God of all things wicked and evil.

that is, theft, lies, maggots wasps and the like, Good is everything that is nice and makes everyone involved feel good.
Sugar and spice and all things nice, thats what little girls are made of, so little girls must be good, whereas slugs and snails and puppy dog tails are what little boys are made of, so therefore little boys must be evil........

Hello I'm Spar… :)

Good is helping..being kind, thoughtful, caring, considerate and not speaking evil of anyone..

Evil is being selfish..hurtful, thinking only of one self, uncaring, inconsiderate of others, speaking evil while gossiping about others..

i don't believe in evil. but i think the world would be a good place if everyone realised that we're all equal. the only problems arise from self esteem issues where people feel themselves to be inferior to others, or where people consider others to be inferior to them.
so i suppose, in simplistic terms:

good = empathy, consideration, self worth

"evil" = prejudice, polarisation, envy, shame
