To me when I think about a good martial artist.... Its only about the martial. People are people, and swearing doesn't make you a bad person. I think of someone that has spent a ton of time on their craft, so much so that they are above petty fights. Bring it and they will stomp you, but they don't go looking for things. I consider myself to be a fairly good martial artist, and the kids I teach look up to me. That makes it all worth it when one of your students complements you by doing well in their own life!

whats up a sturdy martial artist is without problem someone who can do it, clarify it and evaluate what they're doing to regulate it! combine the above with journey and a sturdy aspect of teaching makes them a sturdy martial artist! upload a touch of philosophy and worldly know-how and consider were given a grandmaster on your palms! Overal a prevalent all round sturdy egg! Renyo makes an superb aspect! A thug can wrestle and he's often nicely experienced yet a martial artist he easily isnt! Budo includes many stuff and a number of them arent about scuffling with! Dont you have to be a gentleman and performance a sturdy heart to be seen to be a real martial artist? in the different case youre basically classed as a killer or a proficient thug! best desires idai

final fu is not about martial arts.
Martial Arts teach you to kill or hurt people PERIOD.
there is no "spirituality" or other nonsense. That might be taught, but it is not martial arts.
it is fascination with a foreign culture that people involve this stuff.
If you were a "minuiteman" were you required to convert to christianity?
Codes that were present for knights and students of fightmasters in the middle ages are largely based on christian beliefs and ideals. Should christianity become the "spiritual" backing of those martial arts- or was it the fighting ability that made them skilled?
Your parents and family are supposed to teach you respect.
A thug is a thug whether they are martial artists or not (know how to fight). Martial Arts doesn't teach and shouldn't teach anything but how to fight.
If a particular teacher doesn't want to train you because you are an a ss that is one thing. That is not promoting this false Idea that martial arts are about more than fighting.
I think a martial artist should refrain from just beating the crap out of everyone who pisses them off because they have superior knowledge and it gets them nowhere (except possibly jail).
One should avoid fights not because of some bogus code, but because unless you have something to gain, you shouldnt' be fighting in the first place. You should realize how badly you can hurt another person and unless they deserve it, then refrain from hurting them. Plus they can sue you. I think martial artists should avoid most fights that others would engage in because of ego. If you train regularly you know what you can do against a trained opponent. Not some drunken lout half falling all over himself. I think most martial artists have nothing to prove so there is no ego. However this is dependant on the person, not the martial art or any martial arts code. I think it is just a side effect of human nature. People fight many times to prove themselves. If you have nothing to gain and nothing to prove but have risk as you could end up arrested or sued, then in that limited respect martial arts has the indirect effect of making you fight less when it is not necessary.
"martial arts spirit" is about the desire to keep fighting no matter how much pain you are in. a desire to get your butt up and fight to either win or survive, whatever your goal.

I think of someone who doesn't even tell anyone that they study martial arts, even though they are masters of the combat aspect. Someone who is a true master does not need to brag or even modestly say that they know some combat. Another important aspect is their attitude during a fight. When I fight i can't go all out unless i am pissed, a true master can go a proverbial 0-60 without even blinking, and back to normal just as quickly. Finally, a good martial artist must be willing and able to teach others.

For me its about being a strong person not necessary about being a good person. Martial Arts were created to teach people to fight not to teach them morals. It wasn't until the early 1900s that Funicoshi(spelling) used martial arts as a way to teach children right and wrong. When I think of a good Martial Artist I think of someone that is willing to fight for whatever they believe in and to do what needs to be done. Its not necessarily their ability that impresses me, its the willingness to lay it on the line.

I think of someone who has dedicated themselves to the study of their respective martial art by the pursuit of the three "S's":
Self-discipline (physical & mental)
Self-development (emotional & spiritual)
Self-defense (the martial way)
Also, someone emotionally mature enough & self-confident to know that they do not need to prove themselves to anyone. Someone who feels no desire to brag, posture or bully others by using their martial arts skills unethically.
Most important, someone who doesn't religiously follow sportfighting (UFC, Pride, MMA competitions), mistakingly thinking that sportfighting is martial arts.
