serious answer for an awesome question
God being a spiritual being , cannot experience and learn about emotions
so we are here to experience these things and report back so to speak
so that God can reach perfection , giving us also the chance in our experiences to reach that perfection and join back with the God energy that we came from

Remember the Tower of Babel story, in Genesis? It can be interpreted in a lot of ways, but here's how I read it:

People change the world. That's what we do. And the most profound changes we make, are in each other. When we set out to do something, we may or may not succeed in that particular goal; but we can be sure that we will make a difference to someone, whether we're diapering a baby or destroying a skyscraper or building a rocketship.

We're the Change Agents of the Universe.

There are people so you can be here asking this very question on Yahoo Answers, and so I can postulate an answer for you here in my spare time.

As a scientist, I believe people exist because DNA wished to survive. The replicator, life wanting to survive. Over millions of years, DNA adapted and formed new plants and animals to spread its code all over this Earth. We stand here today because we are DNA's ultimate creation. Not only do we thrive here on this planet, but we have the ability and technology to spread to the rest of the Solar System. I think DNA should be very proud of itself! It's a job well done.

To experience that which we truly are. This is the experiential realm and the "other side" is the static realm where all that is... is love and there is nothing that is not love. We have to come to this earth plane in order to EXPERIENCE that which we really are because on the "other side" there is nothing other than what we truly are, which is love.

In the experiential realm there are those who choose to come here and forget who they really are and pretend to be unloving, cruel, and so on in order that others may experience what it is like to be loving, kind, forgiving, etc.

There are people because life wills out. It changes, evolves, moves and we fit right now. Hopefully we will continue in the future for a while. I would love to see what comes next!

Well, for the same reason there are stars and planets and gases and dogs and birds and trees. Everything happened upon the universe as it were. If not for the correct mixture of nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and water, we would not be alive, or we would be fish-like people.

Do you want the technical answer, the scientific answer, or the religious answer?

The technical answer is because we haven't managed to kill each other off (yet) or destroy the earth completely (yet).

The scientific answer is because our ancestors continued to procreate.

The religious answer is because God wanted creatures who had the ability to choose.

Yes, this is a great question. It has many answers, and I think all of them are at least partly right.

Wouldn't the better question be is why ANYTHING even exists at all?

I often think about that and can only think of endless blackness forever and forever. Really messes with that mind there.

The religious answer is that God wanted
brethern (family).
The scientific reason might be that we haven't destroyed ourselves quite yet.
