I agree. If God is so infinite and perfect, why does he need Man to worship him? That implies a need that a god wouldn't have. It is better to be a humanitarian and help make life easier on all the people of this Earth, rather than waiting around for God to do it.

There are many ways to worship, and you've suggested some--helping others. But worship is a personal thing, and if you believe in, and love God for all the blessings you have, you'll feel a need to praise and worship Him whether it's at a church or synagogue with like-minded people, alone in a pristine mountain glen, or helping someone in need.

Sorry, but to worship God is not showing a flaw in His nature. And when we do it, it is beneficial to us ,both physically and spiritually. Did you read the article in National Geographic about us humans seem to be wired to respond to prayer with so much of our being. It is good for us. You are right in that God is sufficient unto Himself. But we are not. We are the ones who need to do the worshiping.

It's all about what you just said. For you reveal a nature that is indicative of mankind-- the tendency to go against what God said to do.
My source says that He does want praise and worship. Not for our approval, but for our decication, which is 'holiness'. just think about it for a minute. The creations of God went their own way with a nature to disregard Him. But a few respond to Him, though the nature is still there, worship Him.
He says that He wants us to love Him, and so I do.

Good question, and I agree, The only reason that I would be of any use to any God would be to help others, meaning he/she doesn't need me for anything else. I'm absolutely positive he/she doesn't need me or anyone else to stroke his/her ego by "worshiping" him/her, because I'm sure he/she doesn't have one. What purpose would that serve? The tendency most religions have to apply human shortcomings as attributes of a higher power is the very reason I decided to define myself as a spiritual being rather than being religious.

Oh really? You mean you dont like when your kids are thankful and grateful to you? You dont seek their praise or the praise of family members? Is something that prods you to be a better person a bad thing?
We worship God because that is what is proper to do given our relationship. Our parents, we love them and respect them, participate in the family. Our wives we serve them and make love to them. Our kids we teach and support. Older people we respect and learn from. Our relationships all manifest love in different ways and the proper thing to do with God since he is so much higher than us is to give worship because that is what he likes and deserves.
God has given us many days to do good deeds, not just on sunday. He wishes us to fullfill many things with church including fellowship with believers, giving back to him, taking communion, teaching and preaching the Gospel, baptism, and in general serving our fellow man. And church is not just for sundays. The early church in Acts was meeting everyday!
In short, the church encompasses many ministries including the one you described. All one is doing by avoiding church is avoiding believers and their responsibilities the Gospel teaches.

When we praise and worship Jesus, we raise Him up. He, in turn, raises us up. He is always praising us. It teaches us to be like Him. The higher we raise Him, the higher we go, too!
When we are "up" then we can go to that sick childs bed and raise them "up" too. So it isn't a question of one or the other. The answer is both.

That is my personal opinoin, if god put us on earth to learn a lesson and do good, would he really want us to take him in vain that we will achieve eternal life?
I am assuming you are refering to Christian God as opposed to another form of religion, because in other religions and other contexts this could be taken differently.
But like I said in my opinion prayer seems vain, and if God is all knowing all powerful he should know and see the things going on without you having to pray for a miracle in given situations. High moral and persistance is the key to a happy life, not worshipping all the time and praying.

I think you are right on. The god of the old testament is an egomaniacal monster, unworthy of any sort of praise or worship. But I have never encountered any evidence, let alone proof, of the existence of god -- and neither has anyone else. Ever.

There are alot of "god" questions to be asked. Thats mostly because it was a book written for entertainment purposes thousands of years ago when there were only a handfull of people, atleast half had to be gullable to carry on this tale.
