Hi~
My cousin, Kathy is having us over for Lunch this sunday in her new home ( moved in last fall) I would like to get her something. I really have no idea. She has a pool and she has two teen age boys and a dog. Any ideas?????

We have a target, K-mart and Wal-mart here in town.

flowers are always nice. it doesn't have to be something extravagent. just a small thank you. a bottle of wine to go with lunch would be good too.

As a frequent hostess, I have personal peeves. If you got it off a clearance table, I'm gonna know. If you actually expect me to keep it/use it, make for damn sure it's useful and good quality.

-Re-gifting isn't necessarily bad form, but be careful of remove old To/From tags. It should never be obvious.

When in doubt, always give something that will "go away," some sort of consumable or perishable item, eg flowers, wine, plant, high quality chocolates, other top shelf goodies etc.

These are the most appreciated because among other things it absolves the hostess from having to display it the next time you come around.

This is especially important when she's particular with her decorating scheme.

Good gifts I've received:
-Wine- always well received, unless it's terrible. Make sure you know the wine is decent.
-Chocolates in cool seasonal tins (eg crate and barrel)
ALWAYS GIFT THE CURRENT SEASON- this is when re-gifting is fine you're on a diet, allergic to, got too many from vendors at work, etc
(Sees/Whitmans candies are very bad form, unless you know the hostess loves them)
-Refreezable cool cubes (don't dilute drinks)
-Flowers
-home-made and artisan cookies/goodies
-

Bad gifts:
-Vase
-candels
-picture frames
-cheap wine
-grocery store (non-artisan) goodies

A few great ideas:
First and foremost, quantity is not key in hostess gifts. Cute and high quality is key. Stay away from things like decorations and dishes, nobody wants to feel obligated to use a gift of someone elses personal taste.
A NICE candle (home interiors or yankee is good)
Bottle of wine
flowers
I have once recieved an apron that i LOVE.
Embroyedered (sp) towels or doilys.
Hand care set to keep by the sink (mary kay satin hands is great)
A coffee table book (pictures etc)
Warm cozy socks (know anyone who knits?)
Get the idea? Something "Homey" is best.

Everyone is always happy about Spring coming around. Get a pool/beach towel for each member of the family. Roll them up so that they all fit into a children's sand bucket. Wrap the bucket with shrink wrap like a gift basket. Or if you can't afford that many towels, fill the bucket with sunblock, colorful poolside melamie plastic tumblers and any other poolside accesories you find. You could finish off with going to the 99 cent store and topping off the bucket with odds and ends that match your pool supplies. They have tons of stuff! Good luck!

Target has the coolest gifts!! I would get her some type of crystal, or a glassware piece, that is a great gift, and she will love it.

Saywhat?? Excellent, cute idea!! I might plagiarize that someday.

A bottle of wine, a set of pretty dishes, or a matching bathroom set( towels, washcloths, tip towels). Try to get an idea of the color scheme in her home first though. Or if you really aren't sure of what to get, buy her a gift card to one of the stores you mentioned.

If it is a housewarming, perhaps a plant?
