why are some trees shaped like triangles?

Most conifer evergreens with needle shaped leaves are naturally triangle shaped as you call it, more commonly called pyramid or conical shaped, because they are not a one detrimental shape like a triangle. They have adapted this shape because it better allows sunlight access to all parts of the tree. The shape also helps the trees to handle the weight of the snow load.

Some possible resons for triangular trees.
The first and most common is (in especially wild areas) due to some kind of animals diets. Giraffes, elephants, birds or goats preffer eating fresh branchs of trees. Thats why some trees grow up not vertically.

And the third, if there is a mount or something like that which halt sun rays to reach tree while tree is growing up, tree might change the standard vertical growing strategie and shape itself as a triangular
