I had a tough childhood, (I know others have as well, I'm not complaining) but I am 50 years old and remember very little about my past. I mean everything. I know this sounds odd, but my best friend asked me to recount a happy time in my life and I realized I don't remember anything. Even recently. If someone tells me about something, I know if it happened/if it is true or not, but I really have blocked out alot. Do you think this is post tramatic stress or something like that?

You sound like you got it right on the nose! Therapy will help.. you may also just want to get a all around check up just to rule out memory loss and anything else!

Your conclusion sounds logical to me. Repressed memories work to shield a psyche that's been damaged. See a counselor & have a chat. Maybe that will help. Good luck!

As long as you live in the present moment, you'll always remember because you were all in it, committed to it. There are a lot of things that I don't remember either, but I wasn't 100% committed to myself then.
