My other cockatiel died and we think she was actually a male. I know that the other one was a male so now I'm thinking if we should get two males again because USUALLY they would get along fine, or should I get a female, but there 's the risk of them mating and having kids. What should I do?

As a general rule of birds, females are usually less "talkative." If you want a noisier bird, go with a male. It is ok to get a female, as long as she is kept in a separate cage for most of the time (but your birds can definitely have play time together). If you'd like to keep the birds in the same cage, a male is your best bet unless you want baby birds.

Also, the female may occasionally lay infertile eggs. To prevent egg binding, leave the egg in the cage (or find a small wooden replacement egg at a craft store) for at least 3 weeks. This will prevent the bird from laying too many eggs in a short period of time, which will often lead to egg-binding.

you should get a female. They wont breed if you just remove the eggs once they are laid. And if you don not provide a nest box, there is really no way that cockatiels would successfully raise babies in the food dish. There is a better chance of your one bird getting along with any female instead of a male- go for it!

Get a male. Of course this is all personal preferance, but females can get egg bound, which is horrible and often fatal.

Even if a female bird is not around males, she will still lay infertile eggs. Many times, especially in younger birds, the egg will be too big and get stuck in the bird. This is painful for the female, and like I said, will often kill her.

I, personally, don't like the thought of this happening to my 'tiel, so I buy males.

Get the male to the vet and the female additionally to get a necropsy. If it replaced into some thing contageous, in the nutrition, or airborne, you will intend to make certain the male does not seize it too. The male would be high quality, in basic terms supply him countless love and interest. the tale of lovebirds no longer surviving with no mate is untrue. All birds can bond with the different chicken, and if one dies, the different will wade with the aid of a mourning era the place they simply look unhappy - because of the fact they are. they often does not die from it. i might wait in case you intend on getting him yet another chum because of the fact he might reject a sparkling chicken besides.

Do not get a female if you do not want babies. A male should get a long fine, just make sure you introduce them outside the cage and monitor their behaviour.
