St. Nicholas was a Christian and gave goodies to needy children. He was a true Saint, so followed after Christs example. I think He was imprisoned for His faith also, so was a true martyr.

However, some like Job have proven that some serve God even when things go bad and that doing our own thing doesn't work. We are not able to decide for ourselves what is good and what is bad. We do need God so he is proven to be truthful about mankind and he has proven the devil a liar.

But do not assume all will be. Out of a world of rotten people only Noah and his family were saved. Several cities only Lot and his 2 daughters were saved. How many are actually concerned with doing God's will?
