I need a motor for a 94 Toyota Camry and I am wondering if there are any other motors that would fit that car besides the factory motor? It is a 2.2L 4 cylinder

Your Camry is fitted with the 2200cc 5SFE motor. You can fit a 3SFE motor which is 2000cc rather than the 2200cc of the 5SFE. The 3SFE were fitted to various models including overseas Camrys and Coronas RAV etc.

However as Camrys are everywhere, and parts are not a problem, I would advise sticking with the 5SFE. It will keep your car original and you wont run into the problems of fitting non original motors (this can include engine mounts moving, cooling system modoifications, different springs for the different weight of the motor, computer compatability problems, gearbox mounting problems).

Well there are various 2.2L out there, I would recommend sticking with the factory engine. However, you probably could well fit the VVTI Toyota engines, and possibly the 2.2L EcoTech engine. Both would require a bit of work with engine mounting and work adjusting the transmission.

according to my mechanic ( husband) it has to be a toyota camry motor because the computer has to match. you can check used one's it doesn't have to be new. We got a refurbished transmisssion for my ford van with warrenty. Lot of times we can get things from junk yard and they are warrentied. big question are you going to do the work yourself, because a lot of garages won't put a motor in unless they buy it themselves. They make a parts profit.
