I would not let a female mate until she was at least 2 years old!!! The dog probably wouldn't die but that would be like a pre-teen getting pregnant.

I am having a hard time with some of the ignorant advice here.
Just because a dog can have a litter at 6 months doesn't mean she should any more that it means a 13 year old girl should have her first baby just because she had her first period.
Get real. A 6month old puppy, yes she is still a puppy at 6 months, will more likely die in whelping than not and the chances of her puppies being healthy are very slim. Just because it has happened without disaster to a few dogs doesn't mean it is the norm or standard.
A female is not sexually mature until she is about two. That means, she is not ready to accept a male and forcing one on her is pathetic and mean.
A female will mate when she is ready and not before, unless some ruthless and greedy puppy mill owner gets a hold of her or some ignorant backyard breeder decides he or she wants to make a few bucks by turning the family pet into a machine.
Spay and neuter your pets. They are pets. Pets. Not investments, not breeding machines for your family and friends and certainly more sensitive to human needs than the humans who would do this to them.
Your call. Your conscience.
And, by the way, dogs don't just "end up pregnant". They get out or male dogs get at them because owners are too lazy or too lax to protect these animals they brought into their families. Nothing just "happens". That's just irresponsible.

Chances are they may not die, but they are so young they get scared. I was around a dog who was six months old when she had her puppies and she freak out. She had no clue what was happening to her. She was just confused and scared and she wasn't a very good mother. Then again some dogs do just fine. You want the best you can for your dog so a good breeder will wait until the female reaches two years. Matter in fact I didn't breed one of my dogs until she was almost three because to me she still acted like a puppy.. I waited until she grew up lol To answer your question maybe not , but chances are good if you wait until they are two years old.

It depends on breed, health of the mother, and other factors. If your dog is pregnant, time to get her to the vet. Dogs need prenatal checkups just like humans - even more if your dog is young. There are preparations you need to make to keep her (and the pups) healthy for the pregnancy, the birth, and after.
It's also time to plan the future of these pups. Millions of dogs are euthanized every day, and I'm sure you don't want your puppies to be among them.
After the pregnancy, it's time for a spaying surgery. It has health benefits (aside from stopping unplanned pregnancies, it also reduces your dog's breast cancer risk). As you have found out, unplanned pregnancies can happen to any dog - who isn't spayed or neutered. If cost is an issue, check with your local animal shelter for the free-or-low-cost "spay days."

More than likely it won't. She may not produce enough milk to feed her babies or know what to do though. My brother had the appointment scheduled to spay his dog at 6 months. She went into heat early and ended up pregnant. She did just fine having the puppies and tried to take care of them for a few days but it got to be too much for her to handle. My brother, sister-in-law and I ended up having to bottle feed 13 puppies around the clock for several weeks. So that might be something you want to look out for.

how old is the dog?
After they have their first heat they are fertile and can get pregnant.
All sorts of things can go wrong when letting your dog breed. I had a friend who's dog didn't deliver one of the puppies - no one knew, the lost puppy inside infected her and the dog died. That's worst case scenario, but it's sooo much healthier to get your dog fixed, it can prevent illnesses and even cancer which yes lots of dogs do get.
If the dog is pregnant, take to the vet regularly during the pregnancy, and for a check up after the pups are delivered. Take good care.

No! The rumor about letting a female have a first litter before spaying her to insure her health is good is based in no fact. A female can live a perfectly long life without any litters.

Of course. It's like with this girl I dated. She was
almost 24 and she said that her doctor told her
she couldn't have children if she didn't get pregnant in 12 months. Not because of any medical condition. Was something she saw in the
movie Reefer Madness, that she substantiated
later from an article in RS.
It's not a sin to be articulate, it's an abomination,
and an insult to people around you.
