Ask your doctor about agave nectar or stevia. They are natural sweetners.

All sugar substitutes are good for diabetics at least in moderation. The chemical in sugar substitutes are made through chemical processes and can be hard for your body to process. Generally most people have no problems with sugar substitutes, but some people do. If you want to know how much sugar you should replace with a sugar substitute ask your doctor, but moderation is the best advise for any substance you consume.

Being a former chef and a diabetic, Splenda is fine for diabetics and people who wish to reduce there sugar or calorie intake. I use it and by packets at a bulk store for my coffee, the larger boxes can be used in the same manner as regular sugar.

Here in Canada we have a brown sugar type, so you can add it to baking. It measures like sugar, so it can replace it completely. It is a modified product made from sugar with the glucide and carbs removed, it does not elevate your blood sugar levels and is lower in calories, while not calorie free, it is much the same as Aspartame, except for the caloric issues.

My grandfather is a diabetic and he uses Splenda. Although it is possible that it can increase the risk of certain cancers, it does not affect the sugar blood levels as far as I know.
