I think both are a result of an immature mentality - the dressing style and the anger at the results. Girls in highschool dress like that, most often, because they are young, immature, and just starting to use their sexuality. After highschool, there is no reason to dress scantily clad (unless your an erotic dancer or porn start). So, I think a lot of women/girls who continue to dress this way well into their twenties are showing signs of immaturity and insecurity. These two things also lead to negative attitudes when guys "appreciate" their scantily clad bodies. It is ironic! But the fact is, women with security in themselves and with self-respect, tend not to dress inappropriately.

Not that I dress 'half naked', but the kind of attention you are talking about from men would usually be fairly offensive. Not just gawking, but probably obscene gestures and language.
If you guys were simply able to 'look' without making lewd comments, there wouldn't be a problem - women wouldn't get angry.
PS - the more I cover up, the more 'gawking' I seem to get - Men do it if you dress like a nun or a whore.

The same reason people stick bolts in their heads, color their hair purple and orange, spike it with gel so stiff you could make spears from it but get offended when you point at it and fall on the floor laughing because it's strange: the attention is wanted, but noone wants bad press. Women want to be noticed, but not objectified...however, the things that would warrant true admiration, such as musical talent or an ability in sports or acting takes time and effort and most people aren't that dedicated or focused enough to wait for the payoff. Everybody wants instant gratification; it just isn't worth a damn!

first of all, if a girl walks out of the house half naked and isn't going to the beach, then yes, she's kind of asking for it. HOWEVER, guys often have this same reaction to a girl walking around in shorts and a tshirt in the middle of summer. what is she supposed to do, walk around in 90 degree weather in baggy jeans and a sweatshirt just so guys won't stare at her?
second of all, to comment on:
"First of all, women are beautiful.
Second of all, people are attracted to beautiful things."
women are not things, which is usually the issue when a guy is gawking at a girl. the guy stares at her as if he were looking at a hot car. next time you see a girl you think is pretty, try acknowledging the fact that you're looking at a person instead of a thing, and i bet her reaction to you will be much more pleasant.

wow! i find this so refreshing coming from a guy. I as a female usually do try to be modest and yet still trendy. I do want respect from a guy and want to know that when I talk to a guy he actually could tell if I had a sense of humor or easy to talk to..I think It is because the emphasis in magazines and tv, and movies that women behave this way. They like the attention and know it will get guys talking... but what they don't realize is that they put Themselves in situations to get heartbroken and feeling like trash after they start to develope feelings for that guy and then the guy goes after the next half naked thing.... it's a cycle... and it's sad

Well there are probably a million explanations, all different to each of those women who does this - Im sure some feel reassured by the attention and just say that they are offended to not seem strange, some who only want the attentions of select male glances (ones that they too find attractive) and some women who do it in hopes of attention but get scared off of it when they actually receive it.

There are some women who honestly want admiration who don't understand that they can get it but not this way. So they become confused when dressing proactively doesn't win the kind of attention they seek. They get leers when they really want respectful notice.
Of course you're confused, but try no to be too hard on the women. They're confused too. The media gives them all the wrong examples. They (we) are taught that we have little to offer but our looks. So it follows that we display that in order to get your interest.
It's hard, but try to take the high road. Many men do. You can be one. Reserve your best for women who deserve it and who understand how to reveal who they really are rather then who they think you may want to see. Try to look beyond the surface.
Also, be aware that often women are not dressing for you but, strangely enough, for each other. Don't ask me to explain that one, just accept it. It's about competition.
Good luck. I think by your question and your attitude, you will figure this out. And when you do, you will win.

Whoa, you are off line my little niece loves bikinis, and halter tops with shorts but I don't want guys looking at her like she is a loin chop she is only 13 months old. There are some women that dress for gawking while others dress because they have been wearing that look for years and not to cause attention.
FYI: Some women want to be looked at others do not and apart of appreciating beauty is respecting it.

Tough question. I like to wear shirts that show cleavage. My husband forbids it because of the men who stare. He says that a woman should not have to dress scatily or with her boobs hanging out in order to have a man see her as attractive. I don't wear "cleavage" shirts for the attention I get from men. Even though I no longer wear those types of clothes in order to respect my husband...I wore them because I liked them...not for the attention.
But as far as for the women who wear them and then get angry cuz you looked....It could depend on alot of things. If you look but not stare like a deer caught in headlights..then the girl is probababy just a b*tch. If you act like this is the first time you've ever seen a half dressed girl with your eyes popping out of your head and your tongue hanging out....you've probably taken it a little far at that point. Some women dress that way because they are comfortable in it and some dress that way for attention, and some dress that way due to low self esteem...just depends on the girl and the situation I guess.

You know what I think here, there is a certain amount of insecurity with woman and their looks. to be honest we love it when a man looks at us or smiles and tells us we look great.
hey we are only human too. after having 4 kids there are times I wonder about if my body really is All that. sometimes I think at the same time we think men should "ogle, drool and go overboard with it".
Yes I do agree with you when I see the woman out there dressed up and they are all hanging out of their clothes and wondering what are they thinking when the men are drooling over them they must know that men are gonna do that. I think they must be needing some sort of reassurance that they are looking good. but there is in my mind a point where it goes to far.
hope it helps some.
