This is a tricky question. My father was an Anglican priest. This caused a few raised eyebrows on my first visit to France, when people asked me what my father 'did', and I answered, 'He's a priest.' In one village someone said, 'Ah, yes, we have a few here.'
When Henry VIII broke away from the Roman Catholic Church, the only thing which changed was denying the political power of the Pope. The Monarch become the Head of Church and defender of the faith, which makes the UK as secular as Iran.
Henry was well into marriage. I remember a passage in a book which I think was entitled 'Schoolboy howlers':
'Henry VIII disillusioned all the monks. About this time the population of England increased three-fold.'
My parents were married and I am legitimate. Anglican priests can marry and having experienced the work which my father did in our community, acting as social worker, psychologist, marriage guidance counsellor, I have often asked myself how an unmarried priest, who has no experience of bringing up children and the trials and tribulations of a happy marriage, can advise his parishioners in these areas.

Yes I read about it-it is very sad that someone is murdered in a quiet village. No-where is safe these days. Perhaps he was an Anglican priest or maybe he became a Catholic. If you are a married priest before you go into The Catholic church it is fine to be married. They accept it.

Father Bennett was a Church in Wales Priest. The Church in Wales, the Scottish Episcopalian and The Church of Ireland are all in full communion with the Church of England.
All these churches allow priests to marry.
Although the Western section of the Roman Catholic Church does not permit married priests, the Eastern Rite Churches who are in full communion with Rome are permitted to marry.
Former Anglican Priests who enter the Roman Catholic Church are allowed to remain married, however, if they become widowed, they are not allowed to re-marry.
