My friends daughter will be 18 in a few months...any suggestions (realistic responses only please)? Nothing too expensive, but something that she will be able to keep for a lifetime.

How about something for when she leaves home and sets up her own house/flat or gets married. Vases, candle-stick holders, ornaments, linin, dinner-set etc. I know this sounds old-fashioned but one day she will need something like that.

credit card gift cards? You put money on it just like a gift card but they can spend it just like a credit card. Depending on how close you are with the friend and the daughter you can set your own limit. I know Publix (which is HUGE in SWFL) carries just about any credit card you can think of. Also gives her that "I'm 18 and I have a credit card" complex without the credit card bill. - - Get a birthday card about a teenager going crazy with a credit card to slip the card in.
