Killing suseptible bacteria. That's about it.

If you aren't infected, then it only serves to promote bacterial resistance to that type of bacteria.

The medical use of Antibiotics is for treating existing "bacterial " diseases and infections. It's given routinely to patients to provide "prophylaxis" against bacterial infections prior to a medical procedures like surgery,to prevent a post op infections,especially Orthopaedic procedures and Trauma's. The benefits would be arresting the spread of bacterial diseases,and current infections,and prevent complications post operatively. Sorry,not ten sentences,so I guess I've wasted your time. SW RNP
