That is not a good idea. The person may get distracted and leave it in reverse and take off from the light and back into the car behind them. A car is not a toy although they do make toy cars. If your friend wants to play then he should get some toy cars and leave the real ones alone. He is in control of a tool that weighs between 3000 to 5000 lbs. My guess is that this is not his car and I doubt he could afford to pay for the transmission rebuild when he tears it up. I wouldn't want to ride with him until he grows up.

if they do that, thier an absolute Idiot. Destroying the transmission, and having a chance of destroying interior componants and leafing you stuck at the side of the road. I would stay away from driving with them, personally. I drive for a living and I'm alwasy dropping off and picking up customers. Some people scare me to drive with, and if thats the case i'll mark it in there file so I will remember for next time.
Shifting into reverse to stop is just retarted, theres no way aruound it other then staying thier retarded. Its different if its a standard shift and they down shift (4-3 ect), to stop/slow down, but no in reverse, If you reach a speed that the transmission grabs and starts moving the car backwords, you may get in an accident, maybe not serous, but it could be.

Well that's got to be the dumbest thing Ive heard, I really dont ride with most of my friends anymore as Ive nearly been killed twice in both cases the car flipped several times from my idiot friends trying to show off. If someone is stupid enough to slam the car into reverse like that I would call off riding with them for good. its not worth your life.

That's insane, if you go into reverse when the car is moving forwards, you just strip the sychromesh and turn the gearbox into a crash gearbox.
You try getting into 5th in a crash gearbox.
Not to mention the difficulties in controlling the car when this is done.

That's stupider than the guy who puts his car in "PARK" and pulls the e-brake at every light.
Tell your friend to save up some money for a new tranny.

You need to tell this person they are a moron. This is accomplishing nothing except tearing up the car, and putting you and others at a safety risk. Lead off with the moron comment, that should get their attention.

It's definitely not a smart thing to do and will ruin the tranny pretty soon, but I don't see any immediate safety threat here....
