I'm confused. Is that Gods wearing Togas, or Toga wearing Gods?

Not always, but most of the time in the Western world, it is that case. It's because in Roman times, when the original gods were created (or discovered, have it any way you like), they were portrayed as wearing togas, which were in that time for rich people and nobility only. They had to appear high and noble, remember? It was just one of those Roman calculated customs that developed into a modern cliche. The English voice, is, again, another sort of upper-crust thing associated with the gods.

I think it has to do with the Greek gods who are all toga wearing party boys and girls! I do not think that Athena or Hera have James Earl voices though! how do I know ? - I am their slave , the salve of 12 Gods!
I have to go and give Apollo a back rub! he tensed up playing god-tennis!

God cannot have a less commanding voice than James Earl Jones.... and he cannot look less sexy in a toga than Arnold Schwarzenegger.
I'm just guessing.
I just hope the angel of death looks like kate beckinsale.

Since many of the gods we see portrayed are from the golden age of Greece and during the Roman Empire they are dressed as the more affluent citizens of the two countries dressed. That would be pretty true to life in accordance with people's beliefs at the time. The English voice adaption is only so people who speak English can understand them.

I always think of them trying to cover their @$$e$. and a God with an American accent is just too ridiculous to contemplate.
