Why was God's name so important to Jesus? Why did he show that it is important for us, too, by telling us to pray for its sanctification?

Hi Jason W.

I'm not going to answer this one unless you want me to. I'll wait to see what kind of answers come about, then, I may add some of my 2 cents into it.

God is a title, Jesus who is the son has a name, how come the Father has no name. if you read ps 83 verse 18 you will see that God's name is Jehovah. hi Jason. anna my heart hurts for you. Jesus never said he was Jehovah God. who was he praying to? you cannot pray to yourself. Jesus is seating at the right hand of Jehovah. Jesus always said he cannot do anything without the Father in the heaven. when Jesus was baptized Jehovah came down like a dove and said this is my son the beloved, so how can Jesus be Jehovah God. we are witnesses for Jehovah, the watchtower is just a magazine that we read on sunday. nothing more

If your Bible is old enough and a King James version, look up psalm 83 verse 18
The newer ones have replaced the Holy name with Lord, but the older versions had Jehovah in that area, and in many others.
The American standard version had Jehovah's name all through it as in the original texts.

I could talk on this for quite a while, but our website was designed for these explanations.

Hallowed means to set aside for holy purpose or to venerate. The heavenly name of the Creator of the universe, God the Father is too holy to be spoken. So we speak to him as our Father in Heaven through His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Son of God and would venerate his Fathers name. We on earth love our earthly fathers. How much more did Jesus love His heavenly father to have been willing to be sacrificed on the cross for the sins of all mankind?

Chris P is EXACTLY correct:

John 17:11 "And I am no more in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to Thee. Holy Father, keep them in Thy name, the name which Thou hast given Me, that they may be one, even as We are.

Notice "the name which thou hast given me" His own Name ,Jesus.

JESUS IS THE NAME. OLAY!

I'm praying for the JWs to realize this. My heart aches for their salvation! The sacred name is JESUS.....and Jesus IS Jehovah.
