My 4 year old boy is as sweet as pie, but he sure knows how to drive me insane! He constantly starts fights with his 8 year old brother and is always blaming him. I talk to him a lot but nothing works... Bed time, meal time, any time. He is always fighting and not listening to me. HELP I'm getting to the point where i just ignore him so I don't have to get mad at his so much.

By ignoring him you're fueling his fire. Obviously he wants attention. Some kids don't care if it's negative attention as long as it's attention. You need to start NOW being firm with him. When you talk to him don't scream or yell, bend down on his eye level and hold him (firmly but not grabbing or digging in to hurt him) and tell him that his behavior is bad and that when people do bad things they aren't allowed to get the good things. Start telling him (and then following through) you will take away his tv time, toys, etc whatever he likes the best until he can tell you he's sorry and be nice. They must learn that actions produce certain reactions. He's 4 now is the time to nip it in the bud!

What you find him doing now is what is really normal with that age.He is a mini you-the parents.Exactly what you have been at that age is what you find him do.Besides from age 2 you could see him lay claim to everything at home as his.Now do the following:1.Never get mad at him, control your temper.2.Continue to talk to him in love, smile while saying "thats wrong you know."3.Tell him to be a good boy and no rough plays.4.Let discipline be just face the wall for 10minutes or less when you really think it worth it.And always tell him the reason you make him undergo that.
Remember, that is you or the father many years ago.

It is something he craves from you! I know a situation where children received this behavior from negative t.v. or DVD viewing, and in other cases.....they act out from images and experiences from school and daycare. Continue to love him(which I do not doubt your love) but Hug him more and Let him see how much this is so not cool!If he is not watching you or others fighting or playing pranks then he will begin to get bored with this.Make sure that you are praising him for every good and right thing he does.

Don't ignore your baby. Do you spend alot of time with him when you're not correcting him? My son is 14 and does the same thing. He thinks it's funny when I get mad. Do you stick to your word when you tell him to do something, or does he know if he keeps fighting you'll give in? I've felt mean in the past for having to stick to my word, but children need guidance. I don't know for sure, but maybe this helps.

Always stick to your guns...when they run out of bullets try something new. (figuratively speaking , folks) Children want boundaries, to feel safe. Say no, be definite and leave it at that. I am a firm believer in "train up a child". No, it may not happen today..next week he may even throw a fit. But when he gets older, he's gonna remember what always happened. don't you. It's all a part of parenting. By the way...I remember my momma's hugs and my daddy's big wet kisses. (He had big lips)lol. Whatever you do, feel discouraged but don't give up and DO NOT ignore him.

"I talk to him a lot " Of course he isn't listening, you're nagging. Kids get bored with being constantly nagged. Set rules. If he breaks the rules make him face consquences stop nagging him to death.

Walk over to him and put your hand on his shoulder and look him right in the eye when you want him to do or not to do something. It really helps.
