My maid of honor and I got into a conversation over lunch yesterday about engagement rings. She and her boyfriend have been window shopping for engagement rings. I am so excited for her! So, anyway, I'm curious what is your favorite cut of diamond and your favorite "color" of gold?

My ring is white gold with a marquise cut diamond that I absolutely love! Ashley wants a round diamond, but is undecided as to wanting yellor or white gold.

I think the round brilliant cut is the best. It simply has amazing fire to it. When I propose, that will be the cut I pick unless she has something in particular I know she wants. It just seems very traditional and has the engagement ring "feel" to it. In my opinion the other fasion cuts can be saved for rings down the line, but a round cut just screams "I am engaged"

As for metal, white gold is really in now as opposed to yellow gold; however, I am partial to platinum because it does not irritate sensitive skin the way that gold can. I also really like the weight of platinum

*EDIT*
To the poster below, Platinum does NOT scratch more easily than Gold. Both metals scratch, platinum will initially show it a little more, but in the long run the color of the platinum will not fade and discolor like the gold does. White gold looks yellow next to platinum. Platinum is a harder metal than gold, and it is much less likely to have a prong break like with gold. When gold gets scratched, the gold flakes break off, but when platinum gets scratched that metal stays on the ring, it is just displaced.

I love princess cut diamonds, and for engagement rings I prefer to see them in white gold or platinum.

The cut of a diamond is a matter of preference. Round sparkles the most because of the many facets. Which is what I have.
Usually the metal choice is also preference but also what looks best. People, such as myself, with yellow undertones in their skin look best in the yellow gold. Those that have blue undertones choose the cooler metal; white gold, platinum, etc.

Although I like the classic round cut stone, I'm an even bigger fan for the princess cut stones ... I have found a way to have both, though!! The ascher cut stone is a beauty which has the stright sides of a princess blended with rounded corners. It is the best of both worlds!! Put that baby on a platinum band and I'm all for it!!!

Among the many types of engagement rings I've seen (so far), I still think that round cut, white gold, is the best. I prefer the classic and traditional look. Something that truly lets you feel "engaged."

I have a .75 emerald cut center stone with two .25 stones on the side and then baguette and round 1/8 cuts going down each side set in white gold and it sparkles so big... The jeweler told him that platinum was to delicate and would scratch very easy especially if you work with you hands type moving paper etc....I LOVE THIS RING....he designed it himself when he went to a individual jeweler....

I have round cut, but I love emerald cut. Don't get me wrong I love my ring, and frankly emerald cut would look stupid on my setting. I wear white gold, yellow gold isn't my color.
