Depends on how much money she is making. Read the following link, if your mom provided more than half of your sisters support than she can still claim her.

Assuming that your sister doesn't provide over half of her own support, and that she lives with your mom over half the year, yes, your mom can still claim her.

Bostonianinmo is correct as to the circumstances in which your sister must also file a return.

The responder who said that you're exempt from taxes if you're under 18 is just plain wrong about that, and also wrong that a parent can claim a child until they move out or the parent provides zero support.

If she earns more than $5,150 in wages or $400 in self-employment income or has $850 or more in unearned income she must file a return. Your mother can still claim her as a dependent if she provides more than half of her support.

Tax laws apply regardless of age. Ignore the idiot that stated you are exempt until age 18. If an infant had enough income, they would still have to file a tax return. The parents would prepare and sign the return, but it would be in the infant's name.

The age thing will depend on your state's daycare guidelines.

As for the taxes, your mom can claim all of her dependents until they move out and are completely on their own with zero financial support from her. And you are exempt from taxes until you are 18 years old. The employer will usually still take them out, and you have to file, but you will get all of it back. Have someone who knows about this do your taxes.

she is still a dependent and yes your mom will still claim her. Depending on how much she makes (which I doubt will not be much because at 15 she is only allowed to work a certain number of hours), I doubt it would be worth her filing tax claim. Once you start you can't stop.
