.....Can you direct me to some reliable, informative sites about cats/ cat care? or at lease, give me some of the basics about cat ownership?

Also, how much does it cost , on average, to get a cat spayed?

Now that you mention it, they do get the cats fixed at shelters.

I will get the cat from the shelter because a) The cats are already fixed b) they are cheaper than purebreds.

I think that it would be a ripoff if I got a purebred, because they are more expensive, and it is not much of a privalidge (I probably spelled that wrong) to have a purebred.

I would start with the Humane Society.

Hi,

Congrats with you new cat!

Below are three of the best websites about cats and kittens.

When ever I have gotten a pet I never had before, I do a lot of research. I do not believe in declawing cats. Not only does this leave them virtually defenseless, but it is also very painful. Not just the claws are removed. There is a cover for the claws called soft claws in case scratching furniture, etc. becomes a problem. They have a web site and you can do a search and find it. My cats do not scratch anything they shouldn't.

I feed them both moist and dry food and give them treats. They always have fresh water. I also got them a self scooping box from litter maid and highly recommend it! They have toys and I spend time playing and cuddling with them.

If you haven't gotten a kitten yet, I recommend a shelter. Shelters ask for donations for adoptions and it is worth it. I got two of my cats there. They were given their shots and spayed. Although I had a male which the shelter offered to neuter for free, I gave them a donation.

I do not know how much it costs to spay a cat. I checked several years ago and it was about $90 where I live. There are organizations that will spay at a discount. Perhaps a shelter or pet store can help you with this.

I wish you and your cat the best.

Just make sure you feed them a good food, like science diet or iams or friskies, a name brand not a dollar store brand. Keep their liter clean. A dirty box can cause problems for your cat. Buy a comb & brush. Most love to be combed and it'll help reduce the hair around your house. If you are not planning on declawing, get a pair of nail clippers from a pet store (petsmart or petco or some such place) and get your cat used to it. They are tricky to use, you have to read the pre-cautions because there is a qwick in the nail that you cannot cut or it will bleed. A scratching post is useful too. Toys, my cats go crazy for a feather on a stick (petsmart) or a little stuffed mouse filled with catnip. I could go on forever, but I won't. I hope this was helpful. You will just love having a cat, my cats are like my children!! My oldest baby is 10 and going strong!!

There are plenty of websites with a lot of information. Just google "cat care." Also, check your library- they have tons of books! Where I live, it's about $90 to get a cat spayed. However, if you adopt from a shelter, most shelters will spay the animal when they receive the animal.

You have to be prepared to treat your cat like it's your own child. You need to make sure they have food, plenty of fresh water, and a clean litterbox. I change my cat's water and clean the litterbox daily. You need to take them to the vet when they get sick, instead of asking why your cat is on the brink of death on Yahoo! answers. The vet can get expensive- make sure you have enough money to properly treat your cat if it gets sick.

I hope this information helps. Good luck!

My articles focus on cat nutrition, but they are also loaded with much good info.

The good news is that if you feed your cat a good diet, many issues are avoided and some are improved.

I don't know about spaying because mine were already done when I got them.

OK...first you will need to get Ur cat a scratching post (so they don't scratch up your whole house!)
then you will need to get it a litter box with clumping litter (so its easy to clean)
then get itt a small toy
also give it attention...THATS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR YOUR CAT! good luck!
