I have been with boyfriend for over 3 yrs, and yes I KNOW I always ask this question.. Anyways, we have been together over 3 yrs, and we have been living together for about 9 months now. I love him with all of my heart and would die for him. I know he feels the same. We have our rough patches like everyone does.

Okay the question is, I want to get engaged, but I don't want to ask hiim, I want him to ask me. The other part is that I don't want to get married right away. I want to wait a little while. I just want to know that I am in this relationship for a reason and not for just the hell of it. Ya know?

Anywho, how can I hint to him that I want to, and actually get him to ask me? SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE!

Happy you are experiencing love, if his love for you is as strong as the one you have for him, then you have no problem, and should'nt be worrying at all about engagement becos he too will be feeling just the way you are feeling right now. My dear, he will eventually ask for your hand in engagement, just dont choke him, dont sound or behave too desperate, men cant stand desperate partners.

Why are you asking us? If you've been with him for three years and are now living with him then shouldnt you be able to have that conversation with him. Just point blank ask him and if you two are thinking different things then you obviously are in two different places in your life and need to move on so that neither of you wastes your time. It is becoming increasingly clear to me that I don't understand women at all. He's not going to read your mind, so you are going to have to discuss the situation even if it is just in terms of vague future plans sort of stuff. Also, I hate to break this to you, but an engagement doesn't mean that the relationship is going somewhere. It means someone spent a crap load of money on a ring.

Ask him how he feels about marriage in general and if he sees you guys heading in that direction. If you truly feel the way you say you do and that you love him with your whole heart, you shouldn't feel uncomfortable talking with him about ANYTHING. I can tell my husband anything and everything, ask him anything.. that's how it should be.

One thing you SHOULDN'T do is get pregnant intentionally- trust me, you will NOT get him to propose by doing that. It'll likely backfire and make things worse.

The real problem is that you want him to ask you because HE wants to, not just because you want him to and no one can make that happen.

This is why I strongly oppose living together. You're playing house and he gets the good benefits like sex on demand (basically) and two incomes to live off of and someone nice to cuddle with, make dinner, etc but not really any responsibilities or expectations.

If you feel like you are ready to settle down than you should tell him how you feel and see if he feels the same if not than maybe you should move around..
