cardio, like running and walking, is good for building endurance. do you have good endurance? i mean you said you dance so you must have strong legs, but do you do endurance when you're dancing. When I started cardio, my breathing was good, but in a few minutes my calves and legs would hurt like crazy. So I turned down my intensity which allowed me to go longer. Maybe you're just doing too intense workouts and you need to tone it down. Another thing may be your shoes. I wore the dressy type sneakers and my feet, ankles and calves always hurt. I got a pair of running/walking tennis shoes and I now I can workout almost twice as long before I feel in my legs or calves. If these things don't work, you may want to see a doctor and make sure everything is okay.

I would suggest stretching before and after a workout. Try it for 2 weeks and see what you notice. Also check your diet for protein. You may not be getting enough. Your muscles need protein to rebuild themselves.

Lactic Acid has research stating that it does not cause muscle burn but it could still be your problem. I have many customers (yes, I own a health food store) who suffer from the dreaded burn. I would also try a lactic acid bufferer, such as Sportenine - http://goaskmatt.com/store/product170.html . I have included the link so you can read more about it. If you want to purchase it from me enter YAHOO into the coupon field for an additional discount. I hope I am not breaking any rules here. :-)

Good luck!
Matt

I think that your used to being on your toes that your calves aren't getting stretched enough,so when you are walking there getting loosened but because your on your toes all the time they lose the elasticity of them when you walk.

you have alot of muscle in them, but not alot of endurance

just keep doing the cardio and stretching and they will build up endurance over time

DEFFINATLY STRETCH, because the problem may just be that they are tight

Yes, you should definately stretch. Make sure you're wearing good supportive shoes too. You might also want to try medical massage.
