When it is done it hurts a lil. then it takes a while for your ears to stop being sore. about two or three weeks. it will be hard for you to sleep on your ear(s). however an upside to all that is if you like the way it looks. its not that bad though. the pain eventually fades. just keep it clean and don't irritate it

I was planning on getting mine pierced, but I did a lot of research before I was sure I wanted to get it. You have to make sure that you go to a tattoo parlor rather than a Claire's, Icing, or anywhere else in the mall. Getting it done with a needle is much more sanitary, which means there is a much lower risk of infection. The needle is not as bad as it sounds! The person who will pierce your cartilage will make a small opening for the stud or hoop and then slide it in. Getting it done with a gun can caused a collapsed ear or cause a bump to form on your ear. You have to clean it several times a day, sometimes with a gentle soap or soak it in some kind of a solution. It probably is a little bit painful, but my friends have all told me that it's not that bad and it's over in a second.

Pain is relative, what hurts for one person is nothing to the next.
They can take a long time to heal, you have to baby them. You need to get it done by a professional at a piercing studio with a needle. It will hurt less and is much better. Piercing guns can not be sterilized and can shatter cartiledge.
Proper aftercare is paramount. Expect it to be sore for at least a few weeks, don't sleep on that side, and don't play with it.
Don't listen to anything the girl from the mall said, it's all wrong. Do not rotate your jewelry, don't put witch hazel on it.....about the only thing she got kinda right was waiting to change the jewelry, you will want to wait at least 6 weeks.
Getting pierced with a small stud (a mini-labret post) often helps with healing, as it doesn't move around as much and won't get caught on as many things. Be carefull if you have long hair, don't catch the piercing when brushing your hair.
As for the pros - If you like the look, go for it! Not that it matters, but they are still quite popular.

I actually used to work at Afterthoughts (which is very similar to Claire's and was actually bought out by Claire's shortly before I left there) and I did a lot of ear piercing. I personally have my left ear cartilage pierced and I have 3 piercings in the lobe area of each ear. The piercing itself feels a bit like a sting. There are notches on the post of the earring that you can use to loosen the earring back - relieving a bit of pressure. You will likely have soreness for several weeks after the piercing and if you use the solution you are given (or witch hazel works well too) and clean the piercing regularly you will have no problems. I also highly recommend that you DO NOT remove the earring to replace it with another for at least 4 weeks after you have the piercing. You should also spin the earring a few times a day to ensure any residue doesn't stick to the post while its healing. Hope this helps!

Wow! I can tell you a lot! I know a girl that got her cartilage pierced and she took care of it like she was supposed to and everything, but then it suddenly got infected and she went into surgery and they took skin from her nose or something and re-shaped her ear because the infection ate up the entire top part of her ear!!! Talk about gross and creepy! I got my second hole pierced like 4 months ago, and I go the little ball earrings for it, and then one day I woke up and the earring was inside of my ear and they had to pull it out from the back! I cried like a baby!!! It hurt!!! So then it closed up, and I got it re-pierced, and I got anther type of earring and it is still in and healthy! But I have to keep it in for 6 weeks after I goet it pierced and I have to clean it with a cotton ball and some ear care antiseptic that they give you and you have to clean the pierced part of your ear 3 times a day and you also have to rotate the earring to make sure its not stuck or anything 3 times a day also. The only BAD THING about getting the cartilage pierced is that it hurts a lot more than like a second hole or something and you have to keep the SAME EARRING in for about 8-10 weeks.
PS-Check out my question!!!

fist off you will have alot less complications if you go to a profesional studio. a lace liek claires or piecing padoga (sp?) will cause you more harm.. they use guns which are not appropriate for any piercing.. guns will cause a longer haling duration. more pain the the long run and also cause you to get keloid (nasty bumps which is an over gorwth of scar tissue that can only be surgically removed)
maye sure you get a curved, straight, circular barbells. or captive bead rings. are the best choice. dont get studs! at all! (i had a horrible experience with them)
cons well.. they are cute. depending where you get piercged.. what cartilage piercing you get. the most common is the helix.. i have 3 helix piericings and a rook piercing.. and love them all!
the downside as usual with any piercing is infection and it will be sore for a few months. and will hurt to sleep on!.
but its just a quick pinch trust me!!!! it fdoes hurt but its bearable. its not as bad as it seems it never is =]

I pierced my cartilage pierced about ten years ago. It never healed properly. I honestly don't know if it was something I did or if it just happened, but my ear got all swollen and turned blue. And it throbbed really bad. I had to go to the doc and he gave me a scrip to keep it from getting worse. Not fun! I have pierced my navel and nose since then with no problems!

It's just like getting your ears pierced. If you really want it do it. Two seconds of pain and a couple of months of healing to make sure it doesn't get infected. So no swimming after or changing the earring. If your under 18 need parents consent. Happy piercing!

I've had mine pierced for about 5 or 6 years now and have not had any problems with it. When I had it done it didn't hurt any worse to me than a regular ear lobe piercing but I did find it difficult to lay on it for a while cause it was a lil sore.

All piercings hurt, that's just how it is. The piercing is done with very quickly, but your ear will be swollen and sore for a few days.
One thing that important is that you have it done by a professional piercer with a needle!
http://wiki.bmezine.com/index.php/Piercing_Gun
Piercing guns are dangerous, and should NEVER be used for ANY piercing.
Main thing is to have it done by a professional and you must take care of your piercing while it heals. Bad things that happen are infections, keloids and scarring, but that isn't likely to happen if you take care of your body.
