Go to this site:

http://www.kbb.com

and enter in the data for the car to get the most accurate pricing. The website returns value for cars in fair, good, and excellent condition.

I ran the 1994 BMW 325I Cabriolet through with the standard equipment and mileage as good condition, and came back with a value of $7,400, which is quite a bit less than the $4,500 you mentioned.

I'd say, if the vehicle has no rust, low miles (less than 100,000) and everything on it works, then the last step is to have the mechanics of the vehicle checked out by someone you trust who knows cars very well. If he clears it, then I'd say it sounds like a good deal.

Keep in mind, if it does need any parts, look up the price on those parts before you buy to see if you can afford them. BMWs, like all imported brands, have very expensive parts because they need to be imported (in this case, from Germany).

If you're looking around the $4,500 range, and this BMW fails any of the above tests, consider some of these other cars that were available as convertibles:

Audi 90
Chevrolet Camaro
Chevrolet Cavalier
Dodge Shadow
Ford Mustang
Mazda MX-5 Miata (Note - Only seats 2)
Mitsubishi Eclipse (Note - Only seats 2)
Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme
Pontiac Sunbird
Pontiac Sunfire
Toyota MR-2 (Note - Only seats 2)
Volkswagen Golf

To search for any of these models, or more BMWs, go to this site:

http://www.autotrader.com

You just have to enter in some data to narrow the search down to your price range and are you live. Also, I'd suggest searching for vehicles made before the year 2000, if $4,500 is you max price.

I hope this has answered your question. If you have any more, please feel free to ask.

I'm not entirely sure because i don't have a car yet but i did some researching (checking out car prices) and i saw that '94 BMW's cost around $5000-6000. it also depends on the condition of the car and if it's from a person, a dealer, or an auction. if it's from an auction then i think 4500 is a bit too much. if from a dealer then that's great, but from a person i don't know. the benefits i guess would be a leather interior, a nice car to drive, and, i don't know, i guess the benefits of having a car. hope it helps. =)
