I'm finally moving back into my own place after a divorce and two years of living back at home. I want to get a new tat to commerate the occasion. I've been searcing the net for unique ideas. I want something that symbolizes "strength" or "renewal" (and I DON'T want kanji).
Thoughts/suggestions?

(Yes...yes...thank you to all who say that tattoos are gross and that I shouldn't get one, that it will get all saggy, etc. FYI - I love them. I think they're beautiful. Otherwise I wouldn't have asked. I'm not some 17 yr old kid who's doing this because it think it's "cool"
Everyone else - thank you for your suggestions!!)

WTH are tattoo haters doing in the tattoo section anyway? Whatever. I think it's a great idea. A tree is a symbol of strength and renewal, so is a phoenix bird. I don't know much about mythology, but searching the internet for that might pull up some interesting choices also.... just a thought.
PS - I would love to see a pic of the tat/design when you decide. I'd love an email of it. Good luck, have fun!

You could try a pinup doll for the symbol of being a free strong woman thats comfortable in her new her skin and the situations shes facing.
Or you could get a sunrise(I've seen one of these, there often very beautiful) to show that you are moving on to new horizons and every sunrise brings a new day with new oppurtunities.
Or you could get a Monarch butterfly because they migrate from August to October and just like the butterfly you have moved on to newer and better places.
I've always been an avid tattoo fan hope this helps.

Sanskrit has some pretty cool symbols for both Strength and renewal. I would also recommend asking the tat artist and see what they have to say. They can usually come up with a pretty cool design, one you may not have thought of.
Good luck and congrat on the new path you have taken.

Something to do with springtime might be good - seeing as how everything's renewing itself then, coming out of itself, and moving towards the good times of summer. So, maybe a spring flower?
But this is ultimately something you'll have to choose for yourself - after all, no-one else can tell you what you should find significant! You might attach a lot of meaning to something that I wouldn't think twice about, and that's a good thing - it's what makes tattoos really personal.
Good luck coming up with a design!

Tattoos are a very personal thing. I would sugguest that you think about who you are and what you love. Then reflect on what makes you feel strong and beautiful then discuss your idea with the tattoo artist who might be able to incorporate it with some other ideas, instead of using a symbol every one has already. Good Luck!

my thought is to review the portfolio of your artist and start some convo with him or her and they can steer you in the right direction better than us...hey..they dont call them artists for nothing.

Eww, don't get a tattoo. Tattoos are ugly and I personally don't see the big hype about them. Do yourself a favor and don't cover your body in silly "artwork". Trust me, you will regret getting tattoos in 20 years.
