I have a hard type getting myself settled in bed and falling asleep. I'm always sleep in the day and sometimes my lack of rest makes me grumpy and irritated. What are some rituals that you use when you just can't get some shut eye?

I have always had a hard time getting to sleep. I have trained myself over the years to fall asleep doing a few different things. The first thing I started doing was counting on my fingers. Just counting in my head wasn't enough to do it, so I would actually move the fingers on my hands when I was counting. This was my most effective method. Strange I know.
I also recite lists, presidents, states, capitals, watever. Don't just run thorugh them though. Draw the words out in your head.
Another trick is puzzles or math. Something you have to solve. It draws your mind away from other thoughts. I use this when I have a really annoying song stuck in my head.
I also use visualization. I create very detailed pictures of anything that comes to mind. I try to restrict it to just one or two objects though so my mind doesn't wander.
What all of these techniques do is focus my mind and help it stay away from all the random thoughts that pop up and keep me awake. Look up info on meditation.
My husband thought I was crazy until he started having trouble falling asleep. He uses visualization now and hasn't had a problem.
Good Luck!!

1. Take an early evening walk. At least 20 minutes.
2. An hour before bed, run a hot bath with lavender.
3. Read a few pages out of a book, dim light. (something positive preferrably).
4. Count your blessings. It works.

By then you should feel quite relaxed mentally and physically.

You need to regroup and change your normal bedtime routine because obviously it's NOT working. Exercise during the day and by the end of the night you'll be READY to hit the sack.

In the morning, while you're still laying in bed trying to wake up- take 5 minutes to think positively about how you envision your day to go.

You need to start using reverse psychology with your thinking and try some different things. If you want it bad enough, you'll do something about it.
