Arranged marriages are not limited to geography. They still happen everywhere in Japan.

You need to know just what exactly an "arranged marriage" is by Japanese standards.

Typically, a friend, neighbor, boss or relative introduces you to another single person. Sounds just like a "blind date". The difference is that both parties are keen to get married....and sadly love may not be part of the equation.

Being single and over 30, especially for girls, still carries a bit of shame with it unfortuately.

So, an "arranged marriage" isnt exactly what your image might be.

No one place continues the practice over another. It still happens but only under very specific circumstances. The first is if you are a member of the Royal Family. Those marriages are still arranged by the Imperial Houshold usually with members of the technically defunct nobility. For normal people it generally only happens when the parties involved get to their early or mid thirties without finding a mate and begin to dispair ever getting married. It is almost always voluntary and very, very rare for it to be forced upon anyone anymore.

It depends on what you mean by "arranged marriage".
If you are over an average marriage age and still single, your relatives or even your parents find someone you've never met and introduce him/her to you, hoping that will lead to marriage. If this is something like what you mean, yes this still happens, although it is becoming less and less. It is not a matter of where, but a matter of what kind of parents or relatives you have. If they are nosy enough, they would do it no matter where you are from.

Mostly in very traditional families, like mine. Sadly yes, I do have a arranged marriage and it's with my best friend.
