How should I break up with a guy that I've been going out with for a long time...without hurting him, and ruining a chance to be his friend?

That's not likely to happen. If he still likes you, he's going to be hurt and most guys can't remain friends with a girl if the girl hurts him. I have remained friends with one of my ex's, but he's a very rare type of guy! Good Luck!

Bad news - if he likes you as more than a friend, there's no way to break up without hurting him; you'll just have to take your chances like the rest of us hun! Good luck, though.

Went through this with my ex and like everyone else has said there is no way to do it. My best advice is to just tell him honestly and then try and be nice to him after you guys break up. He'll prob. be a jerk to you afterwords and if you want to be friends then you'll have to put up with it until his anger subsides.

Cant be done not with out hurting his feelings, just tell him you need some time to yourself, he'll know its an excuse anyways, us guys always seem to get over it anyways.
