In the iditarod the dogs cover 1150 miles in 10 to 17 days. These dogs are mixed breeds with some husky and other mixes thrown in.

I don't know if it goes by breed, but rather how physically able the dog is to run. However, most dogs need to drink after every 1/4 to 1/2 a kilometer.

It all depends on the breed, age, weight, the way the dog is exercised on a daily basis. Its a matter of building up endurance as well...just like people with similar physical features...one can run for a long period of time while the other may not based on how much training/exercise/personal characteristics. I have a jack russell and she can run for hours without being tired.

Most hunting dogs (setters, beagles, hounds) will run all day long. We used to have a German Shorthaired Pointer that seemed to never stop. Site hounds, although most claim are sprinters....can run for a long time REAL FAST!

Alot depends on the health of the dog too!
