It's USA who made him famous. With their policy of violence, "pre-emptive strikes" and their presence in Central Asia and Middle East they only increase his popularity. He's not the only one behind deaths of children: so are George Bush, Ariel Sharon, Tony Bliar and them alike... Do you think an American life is worth more than any other life? Count victims of 9/11 and count civilian victims of US occupation, and you'll see the reality. Killing cannot justify more killing.
I wouldn't consider killing innocent children from a helicopter a heroic deed either. You forgot that Al-Qaida's primary target are US soldiers, not civilians. If US is the victim in this game, their response should be more violence. How would you like if let's say Iraq occupied your country and start plundering? Would you just obey and submit or would you fight back?
On the other hand, Bin Ladin offered Bush peace, but Bush refused it. Bush never offered peace, he only brings war and fear. I'm not with Bin Ladin but until this kind of policy continues he'll be gaining more followers.

As a Muslim I do not know of one other Muslim who thinks Bin Laden is "a hero of Islam''.
However i have to add. Why do some people look at Bush as hero to the American people although he is much experienced in killing children?
Or do Muslim women and children not count in your book. 36,000 plus dead at the hands of Americans. He is the biggest coward i know. Trying to call it a war on terror. Anyone who believes that surely believes in the tooth fairy. Since when did 3 year old baby girls and pregnant women attack or threaten you or your country? Bush and Bin Laden cut from the same cloth, like it or not.

What is Islam's attitude toward terror?
Although it is useless to discuss whether Islam allows terror, since our consciousness and minds are manipulated for years to make us believe that Islamic belief causes terror, we should say a few words on this topic. But before Islam’s stand against terror, we should remind that this topic is a new one introduced after 1991 in order to create a new enemy front against the Western hegemony in the world. It is Muslims in the world who have been terrorized for centuries, not who have terrorized others. Those who employ some figures from the Muslim world whom they have trained as terrorists are the same powers that accuse Islam of allowing terror.
Any terrorist activity, no matter who does it and for what purpose, is the greatest blow to all religious and humanistic values. For this reason, no one—and certainly no Muslims—can approve of any terrorist activity. Terror has no place in one’s quest to achieve independence or salvation. It costs the lives of innocent people.
If a ship is carrying nine criminals and one innocent person, Islam does not allow the ship to be sunk to punish the nine criminals
Even though at first sight such acts seem to harm the target, all terrorist activities eventually do more harm to the terrorists and their supporters. Although there may always be some who exploit any religion for their interests, Islam does not approve of terrorism in any form. Terrorism cannot be used to achieve any Islamic goal. No terrorist can be a Muslim, and no true Muslim can be a terrorist. Islam orders peace, and the Qur’an demands from each true Muslim that he or she be a symbol of peace and support the maintenance of basic human rights. If a ship is carrying nine criminals and one innocent person, Islam does not allow the ship to be sunk to punish the nine criminals, for doing so would violate the innocent person’s rights.
Islam respects all individual rights and states clearly that none of them can be violated, even if doing so would be in the community’s interest. The Qur’an declares that one who takes a life unjustly has, in effect, taken the lives of humanity as a whole, and that one who saves a life has, in effect, saved the lives of humanity as a whole. Also, our Prophet Muhammad says that a Muslim is one who does no harm to others with either his or her hand or tongue.

Because President Bush used the word "crusade" after 9/11 which brought up memories of Richard the Lionheart.
Some Muslims are in war-torn areas, areas destroyed by disease and poverty. Their fathers, mothers, daughters, and sons were killed by Americans who they call "cowards".
Have perspective. It has nothing to do with Islam and more to do with socio-economic standings of these people.
People will try to change Islam, but they will fail. We are not like Christianity or Judaism.

Believe me when I say this:
The majority of Muslims want to see Osama bin Laden killed and tortured for his actions just as much as anyone else.
You are truly right. Coward does not begin to cover what this man has done. He has defied the Qur'an by killing innocent women, children, and elderly, and will surely burn in Hell for eternity for his actions.

Bush told us "God told me to attack Iraq"--since then approx 650,000 Iraqi citizens have been killed---we can only guess how many hundred of thousands were women & children. So perhaps we should put Bush & bin Laden in the same boat---after all---both killed in the name of the God of Abraham--it's just that Bush killed more people.

i don't think most people support his murder of children directly. But he fights "the Great Satan", so his actions are justified to some. We gave Saddam chemical weapons because he was fighting people we considered worse. We helped the Soviets fight the Nazis. same principle. In the end, it's worth it.
